Marking a video as decorative in Rise

Hello community! I have an accessibility question. We sometimes use videos to reinforce the text shown above in a Rise course. For example, we may give you directions on how to Save a Word document in text form and then insert a video showing the steps.  The video would contain no sound.  Is there a way to mark this video as decorative so that the screen reader would by-pass this?

  • Hi LeAnn,

A video cannot be made decorative in Rise 360.

Any object that provides meaning should be accessible to screen readers. In this case, the video is meaningful, it just doesn't have audio. It sounds like your video is a media alternative to the text instruction. I think it is excellent because it accounts for a wide range of learners. I'd recommend labeling the video with short text or a note, describing that it is a video demonstration of the instruction.  This way, the video stays meaningful to screen reader users knowing it is there and what to expect.

    Hope this helps!

    Regards,
    Marvie
