Here's an elegant template featuring a sleek design, designer fonts (free!) and a custom menu to track learner progress. You can view the published version here.
Love this, its great. Was wondering, is it possible to do this for variables in other courses? I will be having many modules for my course and a main menu, and it would be nice if I could use variables to track where they have gone and what they have completed.
This is a really great way to organize a course with many lessons. I really like the clean design. It's given me a few ideas for the next course I'll be working on. Thank you so much for sharing...especially the designer fonts!!
Thanks everyone! I actually just noticed my template was posted here!
Jeff - I know I'm late on this reply but ... you can totally do this for variables in other courses! You can just copy the variables and triggers I created to do the same thing in your own project if you want.
Kevin - Nice to hear about someone who knows where Russell is!! It's such a dot on the map :) Also nice to see fellow Ottawans in the forum!
Better late than never is what I've always been taught : )
My question more specifically is, if I have a main menu which links to two courses outside of the menu, can you use variables that could pass from the courses to the main menu?
Jeff - Better late than never, but never late is better. :)
Hmm... If I understand correctly... I'm pretty sure if your main menu is in a different .story file than the two courses you are linking to, I don't think one .story project can read the variables of another project. I think you might perhaps need to use some Javascript, to pass those variables from one course to the next. I'm not 100% sure about this so I don't want to give you wrong information or lead you down to the wrong path, so maybe you should post a question in the Storyline forum.

*** Use the player.GetVar method to retrieve the value of Storyline variables, and use the player.SetVar method to set the value of a Storyline variable. In other words, you can pull information from Storyline variables with player.GetVar and push information into Storyline variables with player.SetVar. ***
Using the player.GetVar method might be your solution...
Hope that helps you! And thanks for the nice feedback about the template. =D
Ahh very cool, I will have to try this out, thanks for the fast response. You have a lot of great stuff on your site btw, that calculator must have been a lot of fun to create!
Nicole- First of all thank you for this template. It is great! I am having trouble with the variables working correctly to checkmark the completed progress except for Lesson 1. It works exactly as designed for Lesson 1 content, review and exercise. I copied the Lesson 1 slides to create the additional lessons with all the existing variables/triggers, however it only check marks the Lesson 1 Content. I have tried adding an additional variable and naming it Lesson 2, etc and then changing that piece of the equation. I have tried making it a slide trigger instead of an object trigger. I made the sure the slide properties were set to resume state. I'm not sure what else to try. Thank you.
This looks great! If there was one thing I would change I would take the next button off the player template for the title slide. SInce there is a begin there I wouldnt want to confuse the learners by having both options there.
I'm having the same issue as Stacy. I've added additional lessons, so that it contains a total of six. The check marks for the first lesson work, but I can't get them to work for my other lessons. I've added triggers, and they either show up checked at start up, or not at all. I really like the template, but I just can't see what I'm missing.
Hi Paul!
Getting the variables and triggers to work just right can be frustrating when you can't figure out where the problem is! We'd love to help you out in the community, any way you can post your file there and we can take a peek at it to help you out? If we can look at your file and the triggers, we may be able to pinpoint the problem ! Thx! community.articulate.com/forums
