Jackie, what am I missing?
For example, with the cross, I see the state change to red with the word "more." Where did the random bars effect come into play on the hover state?
@Victoria and @Karen - it looks like Jackie added a second object to the hover state of the original button and then applied entrance and exit animation/effects to the added object.
To see what she did,
1. Single click the object to select it, and then click the States tab (just above the timeline).
2. Double-click the Hover state to put it into Edit mode
3. There are two objects "stacked" on top of each other, with the colored shape on the top. Click the colored shape to select it, and then go to the Animations tab at the top of the screen to see the effects that shape has.

I add an extra blank slide at the end of a sample template, insert a text box, then include instructions if they're provided so I'll know how it was done when I need the template.
