One of the quickest and easiest ways to personalize your e-learning is by adding a simple username variable. Save even more time by using this template, with text entry fields, variables, and triggers already created.
Hi Nicole - this is going to be a silly question.... prepare yourself.... In the slide master, I notice that your photograph isn't clickable. How do I create/replace a content slide master like that?
Hi Nicole,
I have attempted (in past month) to get one of these Username variables to work and now with yours I have gotten neither to function. Is there a common mistake I could be making?
Hi Michael,
I have had some difficulty with this myself, but have worked through several solutions and found a slightly off-book option for myself. What set-up are you currently using?
Hi Jane! You should be able to right-click on the slide and click "Format Background", and from there either change the picture or select a background colour.
Michael - Sorry to hear you're having difficulties getting this to work for you! Please check out the following tutorial for adding a username variable, which should help guide you through the process step-by-step: https://community.articulate.com/articles/adding-and-displaying-a-user-s-name-in-storyline. Hope this helps!
Is there a way to obtain this information using a variable tied to the LMS? With Lectora, I was able to have the username populate automatically from their profile information in CourseMill. The user was never required to enter that information. There are a lot of differences between Articulate Storyline and Lectora. Any one have a solution here?
Hi Kryshel! Thanks for the comment. Pulling in a variable from an LMS is not something we support because you will need to use Javascript to do it, however, it is possible. Here are a few forum discussions from community members who have done the same thing that might be helpful to you:

Thank you for this Username variable tip. I just need to take it to the next level. I am using text to speech....so my question is:
- How do I have my text to speech read the variable name?
Hi Rajiv! That is currently not possible in Storyline 360, but would make a great feature request! Please submit one here: https://articulate.com/support/contact/feature-request Thanks!
