In some cases, partial conversion can help the live session focus on activity and conversation rather than conveying information. Live time is really valuable for emergent experiences and strengthening connections. It's a shame we so often use it to do things that could have been a video, email, or article.

I couldn't agree more! It's not always a case of having to choose between in-person or e-learning. Sometimes the best option is both!
Years ago, I worked on revamping a huge leadership training program—something that wouldn't have worked well as e-learning alone. But there were sections of it that didn't need to be done live. So we converted the parts of it that worked asynchronously to e-learning, leaving us with way more in-class time to focus on deep dives and discussions. In the end, the revamped course had the exact same amount of in-class time but accomplished so much more because we were using that time more effectively.
