In another thread I found some really helpful tips for reducing your suspend data (handy if you're exceeding the SCORM 1.2 limit, for example).
Delete any variables you don't need: their values are stored in suspend data
Wherever possible, have your slides reset to initial states: otherwise, the slide's state has to be stored
