What You Missed in the Rise Tips & Tricks Peer Pod

Have you ever seen someone use a Rise block in a way that made you think...“Wait…you can do that?”

That reaction came up a lot in the Rise Tips & Tricks Peer Pod this past June.

Peer Pods are community learning experiences where a group of folx explore a topic together over a few weeks and share what's working, what isn't, and everything in between.

For four weeks, a group of community members dove into Rise: how to use blocks creatively, how AI is fitting into real workflows, and how to make your courses look and feel way more custom.

Check out some of the takeaways you can try in your next Rise project 👀

🧩 Rise Blocks Are More Flexible Than You Think

This was the through-line of the whole program. Participants weren’t asking “which block fits this content?” They were asking “which block creates the experience I want?” The answers got super creative:

🔀
Accordion as a knowledge check hint
Learners try first, then click to see the suggested answer. (JenLynnRusso)

📋
Timeline block as a structured list
Two-word label where the date goes, title left blank, explanation in the text field. (AshleyGreenb126)

📑
Process block for supplemental content
Terms and optional details with step labels turned off — a clean alternative when accordions start to feel repetitive. (HannahSpe18)

🎙️
Audio phrases embedded throughout a leadership course
Learners select a clip and hear a ready-to-use phrase for a tough workplace conversation, repeated with different scripts across the whole course. (LeighAnnMorg351)
“One thing I love about Rise is how flexible it is. You can often get the same result in different ways depending on the experience you want to create.”

🤖 AI Is Already Part of the Workflow

And not in a vague, “I use AI sometimes” way. Participants came in with specific, repeatable workflows they were already using:

1
Ask AI to change the color of bold words to a specific hex code in a text block — a huge time saver for branded content. (DejakaBachman-a)
2
Keep a “Code Block Samples” Rise course as a personal library, then hand an example to Copilot and ask it to update with new content for consistent output across a course. (CherylHartzell-)
3
Describe the custom block you need and let Copilot write the code, even if coding isn’t your strong suit. (HannahSpe18)
4
Use Instant Convert to transform a block of text into Tabs, Accordion, Process, or Timeline in just a few clicks. (Nedim)

✨ A Few More Things Worth Stealing

Block templates kept coming up in every group (ok, maybe they were a topic for one of the weeks 🤭), but people genuinely couldn’t stop talking about them. A couple of specific moves:

  • Save a block as a template before deleting it so it’s there if you need it later. (SusanCCox8)
  • Build your first lesson fully, save those blocks as a template, and use it to jump-start every lesson after. (DianaPerdue)
  • Use a naming convention like “[Product Line] Hot Tip” to keep your library organized as it grows. (JenLynnRusso)

For making Rise look more custom, participants leaned on PowerPoint as a design companion (for custom dividers, section breaks, and branded flashcard images) and a handful of free tools worth bookmarking:

→ Haikei.app

Generates custom organic shapes, waves, and blobs for banners and backgrounds.

→ svgwave.in

SVG waves you can drop straight into a note block as a background.

→ BuddyBar

A floating color palette that keeps your brand colors accessible while you build.

One participant shared how they ended a module with: “The team knew what needed to happen, but the work still stalled. One critical piece was missing.” Then labeled the Continue button: “See What Everyone Missed.”

That’s the kind of thinking that comes out of a Peer Pod. Not just tips, but the reasoning behind them.

I really enjoyed this peer pod experience and learned quite a bit more from others about how they use different Rise features. I definitely recommend it for people who want a nice structured way to try something new with Rise (each week contains several "try-it" options). Now, I need to try my hand with more Storyline, eek!
