Week 1 Welcome & Introductions
Miss Gnocchi is precious! Thank you for sharing her story and picture 🥹
I know very little about the light rail industry, what sort of subject material are you most focused on in your training? (Or I guess a better question is how much engineering do you have to understand to write it?)
I hope the cohort helps speed up your process, or gives you ideas for other projects!
The subject material is anything and everything a person from the street needs to know to be able to operate the train itself all the way to interacting with passengers and reporting incidents. There is a little bit of technical training as they need to be able to troubleshoot common problems such as a stuck door ramp or malfunctioning door. We actually got new simulators last year that closely replicate the real thing. I tried it once and there is no way I could be an operator. There is too much going on all at once and I get overwhelmed too easily. I have learned a lot about operating though in my eight years of supporting the department so I'm not totally clueless and when in doubt our Training Supervisors and Training Specialist are our SMEs who have field experience so they do the final approvals on anything I create and are my go-to people when I have questions.
