Changes I made using AI Assistant: 

• Instant convert of many of the blocks to increase diversity of engagement and visual interest. For some more simple paragraphs, I converted these into knowledge checks to introduce engagement
• I got the AI to add images when it generated my course draft, which were all photorealistic style. I converted these to editorial sketches but what was really helpful is that I could reuse the prefilled prompts that it had used in generating the original images and just swap out the style
• I made many blocks of text shorter. I found it helpful to be directive with the AI Assistant, e.g. 'reduce to 3 sentences' to hit a copy sweet spot

Particularly useful features: 

• I really liked using some of the prompts from the practice exercise, especially the one for knowledge checks 'Remove all mentions of "correct" and "incorrect" wording and add meaningful context and feedback to help the learner understand why each choice was correct or incorrect'. This immediately enriched the feedback for my knowledge checks
• Potentially a bit more boring, but I find the AI Assistant so helpful in adapting format for flashcards and other segmented presentational items. You can ask it things like 'make sure the text fits comfortably on the front of the card' and it will adapt them at once.

Challenges I encountered: 

• The image generator needed quite a few rounds of prompting sometimes to get appropriate options and despite requesting that no text be featured in the images, it persisted in adding it and spelling words very strangely. I found that the most specific about the visual (e.g. 'a woman in a hard hat in a warehouse') rather than the concept that I was trying to portray, the better the results
• I really missed the option to instant convert knowledge checks into other formats
• I wanted to convert to sorting activities more but I found often creates ambiguous categories for e.g. ‘Techniques that foster open communication’ and ‘Techniques that build trust’ when it the card could be either.

I wish I had more time to work on it, but it was very fun and valuable to put all of the features into practice.

Overall I changed the visual style in the first lesson with some custom prompts and a uniform style.  I also changed some blocks to make them more interactive vs. just being paragraph text. Added a module summary in there as well to wrap everything up before the quiz.

The most helpful thing in this particular workflow was the block conversion tools and the writing/formatting quick change functionality.  Being able to quickly organize or change content that is too wordy or technical is a great feature that I can see myself utilizing day to day.

Getting images to be what I'm picturing in my head vs. what the AI pumps out is probably the most challenging thing for me right now.  I'm sure a large part of that boils down to the prompts that I'm using, but it feels kind of unnatural to me to use the more involved prompts that I've seen demonstrated.  I suppose I just need to get used to it though and get some more practice.

1. Share 3 changes you made to the Rise AI Course Draft to improve learner engagement. Why did you make those changes to your project? Be specific!

I made a variety of changes to help the course flow and prevent repetitiveness. I used instant convert on many blocks to change up their look or interactivity. For instance, I changed some numbered lists to a timeline or process. I also added a labeled graphic and used the AI Image gen for that. I definitely used lengthen, shorten, and improve writing often. For fun, I even threw a haiku in before the quiz. Midway through the process, I decided to change my image style to painterly and I was able to switch out or add images fairly quickly (see the challenges below).

2. Which AI feature or capability was most valuable in your workflow, and why? Did anything about it surprise you?

The AI rewrite and the pre-generated prompts have been extremely helpful. I also really liked the auto quiz generator. I used that along with the custom prompt from the demo to make the feedback more informative for the learners.

3. What challenges did you face when trying to get AI to produce the results you wanted?

Image generation is still difficult to get correct, even with the “Generate AI Image Prompt” tool. There’s still a ton of artifacts and gibberish that pops up if there is any need for text. Also, every time I had just “Leader” or “Manager” in the prompt, it was a white male That happened even when the prompt contained a “diverse group of people.” I quickly added a few additional items in the prompts and that helped to clear it up. The other issue I found is that the course lessons are all set up in the same format. I’d love to be able to have a bit more control to vary up how the content is displayed from the beginning.

I made quite a few changes to the draft. For one, I pretended that my audience were clinical nurse managers, so all of my images will show clinical workers in a hospital or medical office setting. This helps the audience relate and connect to their role in the workspace. I changed the text to use active voice to be more direct and concise. I wanted the audience to know exactly what the recommended behavior changes were. Another change was to incorporate hypothetical scenarios in conjunction with audio to help the learner visualize and hear how certain concepts may be applied in situations.

The most helpful AI feature that I found using most was "make shorter". As busy adult learners, especially if using their mobile phones for training, shorter paragraphs and sentences help retain the information. I was pleasantly surprised how well AI rewrites the text. Another great AI feature was the AI images. I usually have to spend a lot of time looking for the exact photos to depict a scenario or feeling to go with my lessons and to find images to my liking by altering prompts in a matter of minutes was wonderful!

A challenge that I faced was a fill in the blank quiz question. I added acceptable answers but in testing, it didn't work. I removed it from my lesson for now but will need to research this further on how to make it work correctly.

   1. Share 3 changes you made: I added AI images and AI audio. I loved being able to use AI to write a script to convert to audio. I also utilized the instant convert features to improve variety throughout. I didn't get too creative with the color scheme but did like adjusting the theme from section to section to make it more clear which content was supposed to be together.
   2. Which AI feature or capability was most valuable: using AI to create the course with downloaded materials was the best part. Super easy and gave a great starting off point. 
   3. What challenges: the biggest challenge was remembering where to find XYZ AI features, whether editing or highlighting to find AI feature pop ups, but certainly doable, and just part of the process in getting practice in.

   I made several changes to the course, beginning with an update to the overall theme. Rise tends to apply a default color scheme to new courses that I find less visually appealing, so I updated the colors, changed the font, modified the cover art, and redesigned the menu bar. I also prefer a course layout that allows participants to clearly understand where they are in their progress at all times.

    

   In addition, I incorporated several images throughout the course to ensure the content was more visually engaging rather than relying solely on plain text on a white background. I used AI image prompt tools to help ensure the images aligned with the course content. I also refined the prompts to improve the accuracy of any text included within the images.

    

   Finally, I adjusted the tone of some sections to make the course more engaging for participants. For example, in the final section of the course, I revised the closing message congratulating participants on completing the course to create a more upbeat and encouraging tone.

2. Which AI feature or capability was most valuable in your workflow, and why? Did anything about it surprise you?
   

   
   The AI feature that was most valuable in my workflow was the AI image prompt tool. I used it to create custom images for the lessons so the course content would be more visually engaging and aligned with the material being presented. It helped save time compared to searching for existing images and allowed me to create visuals that better matched the tone and focus of the lessons.

   One thing that surprised me was how much prompt refinement was needed to achieve the desired result. In many cases, I had to revise the prompts multiple times because the generated images were too cluttered or overly saturated. This process showed me that creating effective AI-generated images still requires careful planning and iteration to produce clean, professional visuals that support the learning experience.

   
   
   
3. What challenges did you face when trying to get AI to produce the results you wanted?
   
   One challenge I faced when trying to get AI to produce the results I wanted was learning how to consistently repeat the process on my own without relying on step-by-step instructions. I found that I needed to go through the process several times to fully understand how the prompts and tools worked together. Repetition helped me become more comfortable with refining prompts, adjusting outputs, and troubleshooting issues independently. Over time, this made the workflow feel more natural and improved my confidence in using AI tools effectively.

Share 3 changes you made to the Rise AI Course Draft to improve learner engagement. Why did you make those changes to your project? Be specific!

• Due to the nature of the topic, I decided to have some fun and made the tone of the course a little less formal. This is something I don't get to do at work, so I played around.
• I used the 3D Animation image style which I LOVE, but it wouldn't fly at work. I used it throughout the course, including adding images to the flip cards.
• I also used a British narrator (because I'm a British ex-pat) - which also wouldn't fly, as our company is based out of North America. I used narration throughout the course, which is our standard at work. I would have also added narration to the knowledge check questions and feedback, but I ran out of time.

Which AI feature or capability was most valuable in your workflow, and why? Did anything about it surprise you?

• I love the ease with which I can generate the AI audio, as I remember having to manually insert .mp3 files previously in Rise. This was so wonderfully quick and easy. 
• I only tried the 3D Animation image style, but I was impressed with its accuracy. I tried a couple of custom styles too, when I wanted to remove people from the results.
• The AI image prompt worked really well as a starting point - especially when I wanted to replace an existing image with a different style.

What challenges did you face when trying to get AI to produce the results you wanted?

• I was hoping to find a way to add audio to the course introduction block of text. Does anyone know if that's an option? It's always bothered me that I couldn't do that.

• I rewrote most of the content to a lower reading level and made the tone more engaging, since my role in health education requires materials to be clear and accessible for diverse audiences.
• I added AI-generated images, and I was especially impressed that it accurately recreated our Kaiser Permanente logo. This helps make the course more visually appealing and branded.
• I incorporated audio using a custom block (reflection audio) and added knowledge checks to increase interactivity and reinforce learning. These elements make the course feel more dynamic and engaging.

2. Which AI feature or capability was most valuable in your workflow, and why? Did anything surprise you?

The most valuable feature was the ability to adjust tone and reading level, as this aligns directly with my work and saves significant time editing content manually. I was also surprised by how accurate and high-quality the AI-generated images were, especially how well it recreated our company logo.

3. What challenges did you face when trying to get AI to produce the results you wanted?

The main challenge was refining my prompts when the initial output didn’t fully match my expectations. I often had to adjust wording or be more specific to get the desired results.

Three changes that I made to my Rise AI course included an opening hook to grab the learner’s attention and give them a reason to continue throughout the lesson. I also felt that it set the tone and relevance of the course. I used the AI image prompt feature to add images to the front of flashcards to grab the learner’s attention. Lastly, I added in a few quiz questions/knowledge checks throughout to test the learner’s knowledge of the material.

Which AI feature or capability was most valuable in your workflow, and why? Did anything about it surprise you? The AI feature that was most valuable in my workflow was creating knowledge checks in my course. I think it’s important that the learner truly comprehends the material they are learning about. I was surprised at how accurately it created the questions!

What challenges did you face when trying to get AI to produce the results you wanted? I didn’t face any challenges. The interface was easy to use, especially with utilizing the training videos!

For this Rise AI course, I focused on making learning more practical and engaging for new managers using AI assitance.

• First, I replaced passive text with realistic scenarios to show how concepts look in the real world and make them feel approachable.
• Second, I broke content into smaller sections and added knowledge checks to maintain attention and reduce overload.
• Third, I used AI prompts to generate images, numbered lists, and bullet points to create cognitive pauses and strengthen connections.

 

The most valuable AI capability was content generation and refinement, especially for scenarios and making content more conversational. It sped up drafting and supported quick iteration.

What stood out most was how AI worked best as a thinking partner, not just a generator.

A key challenge was overly generic or polished outputs, especially for manager scenarios. I had to refine prompts and ensure alignment with learning objectives.

Overall, AI saved time, but strong instructional design judgment was still essential to keep the experience learner-centered.
