The storyline as a SWF

Nov 02, 2022

Hello, I have received some eLearning modules. They are exe files and running flash player to run the eLearning courses. While I was able to download the SWF files, I am no longer able to run them. My guess is that they were made in Adobe Flash when it was available.

My guess is that they were made in Adobe Flash when it was available. It is not possible for me to remake each of them via Storyline. Although I tried to incorporate the SWF file into Storyline, it did not work.

How can I approach this problem? Do you have any ideas or suggestions?

Hi Oliver and welcome to the community! I'm sorry that's happening! Since Adobe discounted Flash, Microsoft won't allow the Flash Player to operate on supported versions of Windows, and web browsers won't run Flash content. If any of the content was built using Articulate apps and you have the original files, you can upgrade and republish to get them to work. But it sounds like the courses you have may have been built using a different tool. In that case (and unfortunately) you would probably need to rebuild the courses unless the company/tool you used has a way to update those projects.

If you do have to start from scratch, Rise 360 might be a good place to start since it makes it easy to build courses fast. Here's an article with some ideas to help speed up your workflow in case you have to go that route. I know it's not fun to lose old content, but I hope that helps!
