Accessibility (Screen Reader) in Quiz Lesson: Rise

Hi, I have searched for this particular topic but not really finding any solution. Our client has flagged an issue where the screen reader is announcing the correct answer twice. They also say when using either the arrow down or tab key it skips over the next button. (This lesson is drawing random 3 questions (of 10) from a question bank.)

The client is using JAWS. I have tested on NVDA and notice the same (screen reader is announcing the correct answer twice) however I am able to navigate to the next button. Is there any changes in the settings in Screen Reader Announcement that will fix this? We have tried with no luck.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • Hi BeMoreHuman!

Sorry to hear you and your team are having trouble navigating Rise content with screen readers!

Do you mind sharing which specific quiz questions are being used in this Rise course? Our team is tracking a bug in Rise 360 that causes the JAWS screen reader to announce Multiple Choice items twice. If you're comfortable sharing the course link here, or through a support case, we'd be happy to test it further on our end!

However, I tested a sample Multiple Choice question with NVDA, but did not observe duplication with the screen readers' dictation. The answer choices were announced correctly, without having to adjust any Screen Reader Announcement settings. I did have to use the TAB key twice. Once to first move focus to the line item (answer choice), then again to move focus to the radio button, before hitting ENTER to make my selection. Do you mind sharing which keys you were using with NVDA?

Looking forward to hearing from you!
