Can a Slider Switch Between Photos With Text?

I am attempting to have my slider switch between 5 photos with an explanatory text box below each one (not illustrations for style consistency) but was uncertain if this is a change of state or show layers. What I discovered is that as soon as I switched to a layer, the thumb hadn't moved and now this was a new numbered slider. I have been trying to align each layer's slider to that layer and account for all the others, but a) this seems needlessly tedious, b) it isn't working on the preview & c) I'm not certain that this is something that can be done in Storyline, although I can't imagine why not. (I wish I could select a section of a slide to layer and leave the slider on the base layer!) Any thoughts would be appreciated!

    Whichever you want.

The thumb hadn't moved and now this was a new numbered slider. I have been trying to align each layer's slider to that layer and account for all the others, but a) this seems needlessly tedious,

Both of these can be solved by using one slider.

I'm not certain that this is something that can be done in Storyline,

It can quite easily be done.

I wish I could select a section of a slide to layer and leave the slider on the base layer!

I can't imagine any other way to do it.

The attached sample show a way to switch between photos or graphics with a slider. One slide uses (fake) states, and the other layers. There are two slides of instructions for the states slide, but that is because I made it for someone with a much more complicated need. The instructions explain the secrets of using states.

The secret to the layers is to create only one layer. Then when it is perfect, duplicate it, and change the photo.

This is great, Walt! Thank you! I have made the single thumb fill with the single image of multiple photos, but I have yet to figure out how to set the conditions so that the Dependent Slider moves in tandem with the Control Slider--it's still stuck on the first image of the DS even when clicking through the CS. e.g. I am setting the DS to value 2 when the CS moves, but including if the CS value = 2. This is clearly incorrect, but I am not sure how else to phrase the variable shift.

  • Hi Pen!

I see that you've been getting some great help from Walt and also opened a support case. Great move! You're in excellent hands working with our support engineers and should be hearing from them shortly!

We'll continue this conversation over in your support case.

Thank you, Steven. I look forward to continuing the conversation as I am still struggling with what may be obvious.

  • Assign one single variable to both the Control Slider and the Dependent Slider. SL will take care of it from there.  Select the Slider and choose design.
