How do I skip a lesson w/Destination button and mark complete?
I authored a beginner training course in Rise 360 where the first lesson, “Your First 30 Days,” is optional for about 50% of learners. Because some learners do not need this lesson, I added a button that allows them to skip directly to the next lesson.
The issue is that when learners use the button to skip the lesson, the course remains incomplete because that lesson is not marked as complete.
I have seen suggestions such as lowering the minimum percentage required for a lesson or course to be considered complete, but I do not think that is an ideal solution. It could create confusion because learners may see their progress showing 100% even though they did not actually complete all the required content.
Is there a way to let learners skip an optional lesson while still allowing the course to track completion accurately? Ideally, I would like the skipped optional lesson to be treated as complete when a learner chooses that skip option.
Thank you

You could add an Storyline button to the end of the course, then have the completion determined by this SL interaction.

Like Chris said, this is easy and depends only on how a course submits completion to the LMS. I personally try to avoid using the “percentage of slides” method if I ever can, but it’s trivial to create a trigger that submit it when the user reaches a certain slide or clicks a certain button (such as the button that takes them to the final slide.) The ideal solution will depend a bit on how your particular content functions.
If you mean something else by wanting the skipped lesson to show as completed, such as showing completed in the sidebar menu or on some custom table of contents, again that depends on your particular course, and may have more or less complexity, but the if you’re speaking about the course sending SCORM completion, that’s entirely up to you and how the course is developed.
If you’re able to share more, such as the course file itself, a more exact solution can be offered.

ShawnConnelly-d: As Chris said, you can use a Storyline block to track completion.
That could be as simple as a 1-slide Storyline project that has a "complete course when the timeline starts on this slide" trigger. Or the trigger could run when the user clicks an "acknowledgement statement" button. Then do this:
- Publish the Storyline to Review 360, with it set to track via the completion trigger.
- Insert that into a Storyline block at the end of your Rise course.
- When you publish the Rise course, track completion via the Storyline block.

Thank you for your support, everyone.
I was concerned that Storyline might be suggested as the solution. Unfortunately, my company has provided me with a MacBook, which makes using Storyline more complicated.
Because Storyline is Windows-only, I generally try to avoid it unless absolutely necessary. Using it would require me to build the blocks on my home computer, which adds an extra layer of complexity to the workflow.
It is frustrating to miss out on Storyline’s more advanced features because of the platform limitation. That said, if Storyline is the only viable way to resolve this issue, I will have to consider it.

I think this might be one of those cases where SL is the simplest solution. As an aside, I'm also a Mac user and can vouch for SL running well through Parallels.

ShawnConnelly-d: Bummer about not being able to easily use Storyline.
The other option would be to add a Quiz at the end of the Rise course, and track completion with that. You could make it just one easy question. That could even be "Do you acknowledge that you understand the content in the course?" with just "Yes" or "No" as the response. (Pretty sure folks will know they need to choose "Yes." 😉)
