Publish MP4 with CC hardcoded in?

Windows 10. Version 3.97.34031.0

I'm fairly certain the answer is "no" but just want to double check with the Heroes smarter than I.

Can you publish a STL project to MP4 with the Closed Captions hardcoded to display? I have captions attached to the audio files, so I know captions will display when clicked in the STL player.

I want to publish to MP4 Video. But I don't think STIL is able to hardcode the captions, right? I would have to publish to MP4 and then use another software (Premier Pro) to hard code the captions to display?

Thanks!

K

  • Hi KathleenSaunder!

Glad to see Ange has been helping you! Happy to share additional insight on this.

When you publish a Storyline 360 course to MP4, the closed captions are included in the published output. However, they are not hardcoded directly onto the video itself. The captions are provided in a separate .VTT file, that accompanies the MP4 video. This allows the captions to be turned on/off by the learner, using a media player of their choice that supports closed captioning.

If you require the captions to be permanently visible (hardcoded) onto the video, you must use a video editing tool to overlay the captions onto the video after publishing from Storyline.

Please let me know if you have any more questions!

  • Hi KathleenSaunder I'm not sure if you are aware of this option in SL? If you are talking about forcing captions to be always on in SL you can set the variable to True that controls the visibility of them. True = visible, False = hidden.

You could add the following trigger to your Master Slide.
