Selected state not working. It goes straight to visited state.

I have built a custom button with an image, then color overlay. When I test the page the selected state does not appear.

I am attaching my slide, if someone can take a peek at it and let me know where I am going wrong. There are two slides in the file, the second slide has regular buttons with the states and it works fine. So wondering if I can't have such a fancy button?

Any help is much appreciated.

As a newb, I am super grateful for this community.

Cheers,
Lea

  • The built-in states are all based on Normal. When the main object (e.g., the shape) has a given color, the color can be changed in the other built-in states. That's why the buttons on the second slide of your file do show the proper Selected and Visited states.

However, when you insert other objects directly into states, the extra objects layer on top of each other.

In the buttons on your first slide, the Visited-state overlay appears on top of the Selected-state overlay, because objects in the Visited state take precedence.

The attached .story file shows how you can avoid that issue. Instead of inserting pictures and adding semi-transparent rectangles in each shape, the buttons are shapes that are filled with a picture. I created 4 versions of the picture by adding the overlays in PPT and then saving those images. (The PPT is attached.)

    • Note: I only created the set of pictures needed for the Laid-Back button, so all 5 buttons in the edited file use the same picture.
    • For the other buttons, you'll have to create the color-overlay versions of the other pictures, and then adjust the fill-picture in each state.
