Text in Shape is not reacting to States

Hello all,

I do not want text in a state when I drag an object over a desired object.  How do I keep the text within the shape in the normal state, and remove it in the selected state?  When editing the slide, the object looks as if the text is not in the object when in the desired state.

I am using the following States

 

Normal - Shape with text

Selected - Shape without text; instead a "?" appears

Correct and Incorrect - currently building into course

 

Ideally, I would like only the "?" to appear in the object when dragging over the slide.  Does anyone have any helpful information to share regarding this?
