Timed Gating to Support Compliance and Continuing Education Requirements

Is there a way to add a timer or delay in Rise before a Continue button or divider becomes active, so learners can’t just click straight through the content?

We need this for compliance, particularly when we need to prove that learners spent a minimum amount of time in the training.

I know I can use the Continue divider, but the learner can click through without reading and have the continue divider activate.  I tried adding an audio file to each tab, for example, but it doesn't make them listen to an entire audio file within a tabs interaction before moving to the next tab or continuing the lesson.

  • Interesting. I would have guessed that having audio in an interaction block would have delayed the Continue button from activating until the audio was done.

You could use a 1-slide Storyline block.

    • Use whatever content makes sense. Or even just have the slide blank.
    • Set the slide's timeline to whatever length you want.
    • Include a trigger to "Complete course" when the timeline ends.
    • When you publish it to Review 360, track via the completion trigger.
    • Insert that into a Storyline block, with the Continue divider below it requiring completion of the SL block.

Of course, no matter how much you delay someone trying to click through a course, you can never force them to actually read the content. But I do understand that some compliance courses require minimum seat times. Sigh...

For future reference, this Exchange Best Practices section is for general questions about eLearning. You’re asking how to do something in the software. That type of question is a better fit in the Discuss Articulate Products section of the website. That's where those of us who regularly answer questions about how to use the software spend more of our time. And that's where more folks go to search for answers specifically related to Storyline, Rise, and other parts of Articulate 360.
