New in Labs: AI Avatars in Custom Blocks

AI Avatars just landed in custom blocks! Now you can add presenter-style videos to any layout you build, right from the custom block editor.

Generate AI Avatars

Here’s how:

  1. Insert or edit a custom block.
  2. In the left sidebar, select AI, then click Generate AI avatar. Or in the left sidebar, click Video. Either option opens the AI Avatars workspace directly in the custom block editor, so you can work without switching views.
  3. Choose a character, select a voice, and add your script. Then, generate your video.

Your avatar video generates in the background, allowing you to keep building. Add more objects to your canvas, or step out of the custom block entirely to work on other parts of your course.

Easily resize the video by dragging any corner sizing handle. When the video is ready, switch into preview mode to review the output.

To download your avatar video, click the play button in edit mode, then click the Download icon in the lower-right corner when playback starts.

Use AI Avatar Templates

Add presenter-led videos quickly using AI Avatars block templates. Follow either method to insert one.

  • Open the Block library, click Custom Block > AI Avatars, then select a template from the list.
  • If you’re inside a custom block, click Templates in the sidebar menu, then select a template in the AI Avatars section.

The following table lists the available AI Avatars block templates and what each is good for.

TemplateGood for
Avatar Course Introduction

Stepped Course Overview

Presenting a multi-part course overview where each avatar clip maps to a stage

TV Mockup

Video Step Guide

Providing a step-by-step onboarding or setup guide with minimal video and more text-driven content

To replace a template's avatar video, click it, then select either Replace with new avatar video from the top toolbar or the sparkle icon from the floating toolbar above the video. This opens the AI Avatars workspace, where you can customize and regenerate the avatar video.

  • Is there a timeline for when additional credits will be allocated, or insight into how this will work on an ongoing basis? I could definitely see practical applications for Ai Avatars, but don't currently want to use it in our course offerings because I don't know how frequently I'll be able to update.

  • Hi, everyone!

Have you created something great with AI Avatars? We’d love to see it!

We’re looking for examples from our AI Avatar users to share with the broader Articulate community, showcasing creative ideas and best practices for using Avatars. We'll use your examples in upcoming demos, training workshops, and E-Learning Heroes community posts.

If you have something you’re proud of, send it our way. You can share:

    • A video you created with AI Avatars
    • A quick share link to a course featuring Avatars
    • An example of how you’ve incorporated Avatars into a Custom Block or Storyline

We’re especially interested in creative or unexpected ways you’re using AI Avatars, as well as examples that might inspire other course creators.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

I would love to see an option to pause or stop the avatar generation process while it is running.

I recently started generating an avatar video and only then noticed that the avatar's name badge ought to be different. As the generation had already started, there was no way to stop it, make the necessary edit, and restart the process.

A Pause option would allow users to make minor corrections and continue, while a Stop/Cancel option would prevent time being spent generating content that needs to be regenerated anyway.

This would make the workflow much more efficient and help avoid unnecessary rework.

    Thank you.

Thank you for your feedback, MeeraLynn-UK! I can see how having the ability to pause the generation, make edits, then continue, would speed up the process. I've shared this with the team!

I love the new feature so far, seems very straight forward and the quality is great. Is there a way to overlay text to the Ai Avatar video while its speaking or presenting? I'm thinking I may have to export the file for those kind of changes?

      Hi semaj_wash,

Thanks for trying out AI Avatars!

Currently, there's not a built-in way to overlay text in the video generation. That's a really creative idea, so I've logged it with our product team. We'll let you know of any updates.
