Big Dreams, Bare Feet – Learning with Tama

It's been awhile since I have been involved with design and development of eLearning, and what better way that to have a bit of fun on a side project to practice some skills and re-familiarize myself with StoryLine again.

Inspired by the AI voice Hemi, available in Voices.

This interactive module follows Tama, an 11-year-old boy from rural Aotearoa New Zealand, who lives with his Nan, his cheeky little brother Hemi, and a goat named Tina Turner (no relation — unless the original also eats curtains).

The eLearning experience is framed through Tama’s eyes, using character-driven storytelling, playful animations, and narrative choice-making to guide learners through a world full of mischief, learning moments, and surprising emotional depth.

Note: Only the first two chapters are available at the moment.

This is really awesome and so entertaining. I’m from NZ so the storytelling was relevant and really made me laugh.

  • This is absolutely fantastic! I couldn't keep it together over the goat in Ch. 2 and ended up with half of Academic Affairs coming to see if I was ok 🤣

  • This is just brilliant. I am in love with the voice as well (another Kiwi here). Well done!

  • Shot,  you nailed it! Even Tina would be impressed 👏👏👏 Haha this is perfection. How did you access Hemi's voice? I don't seem to have it, even under ai voices.

I think its a subscription level thing. I was sharing it with some other Learning Designers and they said their standard 360 license didn't have access to addition Voices, I am lucky that my company invested in the 360 AI subscription so I have access to more voices.

This is really great and so beautifully put together! Are the illustrations also AI?

Yes for the most part, I used DALL·E for most of the image generation, once I was happy with the initial look and feel for Tama, I used reference image generation to keep the style and composition pretty consistent. You can also request transparent backgrounds now too. I used Adobe Illustrator for some of the image manipulation, and Adobe InDesign for layout with inspiration drawn from children's magazine templates in Adobe Stock

  • SuperSuze Thank you so much for the laugh! I absolutely loved this story, which demonstrates the power of storytelling in the context of eLearning development. Furthermore, it shows how effective eLearning can be developed without having a blockbuster movie budget.

SuperSuze: Wow, that was great, so well done. I loved it. The story was very cool and had great learning. I also enjoyed the quiz parts; they were bright, and Tama's interaction when you submitted your answer made me smile. 🤩
