Error - Upgrade from 09 to 13

Dec 09, 2013

Hi all,

I created a number of coursewares with Engage 09 and now would like to migrate to version 13.  However, there is a error message as below.

May I know if I need to re-work again for the courseware or there is any method for a smoother migration?  Feel frustrated...

Hi Foot,

First, can you tell me if you just recently installed the upgrade? If so, it might help to restart your machine.

Also, check to be sure you're taking the right steps to upgrade your existing projects:

How to Upgrade an Interaction to Articulate Engage

I would also try moving the interaction file(s) to a shorter directory, that may help. For example, you could move a file to your desktop and see if it opens properly from there. You'll want to make sure the directory path to your project files is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).

If you still have trouble with the files, are you able to share one of them here? You'd just need to share the .INTR file. I'd be happy to take a look and see if I run into the same issue with the newer version. Just keep in mind that if the file is too large, it may not post.

Thanks!

Hi Foot,

You're welcome to attach the INTR file here, if it's not too large and you don't mind sharing it in the thread.

If you'd like to share it with me privately, you can upload the file here

If you'd like to send it over to our support team, you can do so here.

Just let me know which method works best for you, so I can take a look at the file once it's shared.

Thanks!

Hi Foot!

Thanks very much for sending the files over. The case numbers, for my reference are 00374107 and 00374108.

I experienced the same problem when attempting to open the INTR in Engage '13. I moved the files to another machine and attempted to open them in Engage '09. They did open with this version, however, when I attempted to preview I received a prompt notifying me that a specific font used in the project was not installed on the machine. This could be one cause.

Another thing I noticed is the language of the courses. Do you have a project in English that you could try opening? I believe this may be happening because the project is in Chinese (from what I can understand). Studio '13 does not support non-Western languages just yet.

We're working to support non-Western languages—such as Chinese, Japanese, and Russian—in Articulate Studio '13. It'll be available in a free software update. We can't give timelines, but we'll release it as soon as we can.

Let me know if you're able to translate a course into English, or if you have a course in English that's having the same issue.

Thanks!

Foot Tsang

Hi Christine!

Thanks for your comment.  However, currently we do not have any courseware in English.

It's sad that we know Studio'13 does not support non-Western languages after upgrading, when we no longer have Studio'09 in our machine.

As we have confirmed the courseware migration plan in early 2014, it would be a nightmare to just re-work all materials (around 20 courses, with the duration of 6 hours).  Would you or your team notify me when there is an update for non-Western languages?

Hope the update would be available very soon...

Hi Foot,

Certainly - we know it's a very important feature and we are hoping to release the update very soon.

In the meantime, if you still have access to your Studio '09 serial numbers, you can still use that version until the update is released. Upgrading to '13 doesn't invalidate the '09 purchase. If you need to continue using Studio '09, you can download it and activate it with your previous serial numbers.

You can download the latest version of Articulate Studio '09 here:

Thanks again and have a great Friday!

Leslie, thanks for helping out with Foot's case :)

Foot,

I apologize for the delay!

I wanted to share the most recent update with you, regarding this issue. I've been testing along side our Quality Assurance and senior technical engineers with your project file.

The bad news is that we're unable to update the project to Engage '13 with any changes we've made using the current version of Engage. However, the good news is that our Quality Assurance team is working on a fix for this issue with Update 3. From the testing I've seen so far, the interaction is upgrading with that build, but the build is not complete at this point.

As soon as Update 3 is released, I'll be sure to update this thread and contact you through your support case. This way you can download the update as soon as it's available and upgrade all of the INTR files you created in Engage '09.

I don't have an official release date for Update 3 just yet, but we're hoping it will be released very soon.

In the meantime, if you find any information that may help with upgrading using the current build, please let us know.

Thank you very much!

Christine Hendrickson

Hi Foot,

I hope you're doing well :)

We haven't received any official word on the release date of Update 3 just yet. However, if you'd be interested in trying this out, I'd recommend sending an email to beta@articulate.com

If you explain the situation to them, they may be able to grant to access to the beta testing for Update 3. You'll be able to see additional information on the update, as well as stay up-to-date on the phases of the update testing.

In the meantime, please let me know if I can be of any assistance.

Have a great day,

Christine
