problems opening attachments after publishing

Jan 29, 2015

Hi there.

I am finishing up an online course. I attached a link to a website in "Resources" by using the "AV Player" tab, and tested it with no problem. But then when I view the published presentation, the link does not open. The same thing is happening with pdfs and word documents (the title of the document has %20 between each word in title of the document). Thinking it was a space issue,  I renamed the document with underlines instead of spaces, and shortened the doc names, but I am still not able to open the documents.   What do I need to do to open these documents??? Am I not attaching them correctly?

Thanks!

Beth

Hi Beth,

First I wanted to let you know that your signature is included here in the post when you reply via email. You can edit the post to remove that information if you'd like.

In regards to your situation, you mentioned linking to and placing your files on a shared drive, but we always recommend working on local project files as described here.  Working on a network drive or an external (USB) drive can cause erratic behavior, such as file corruption, an inability to save changes, and loss of resources.

You mentioned you're sharing the link - but where are you hosting the web published output? Hosting it within a shared drive and providing a link to that may not work as expected as it'll act as if being viewed locally - did you try uploading to a web server or a intranet.

Dear Ashley,
If possible please remove my email signature from my previous message. Thanks for that information.
Here is more detail:
I published onto my own hard drive and then copied and pasted the folder onto our network drive. It needs to be there so others can access it. But very soon I will post those links to our organization website for external viewers.
I just reattached files and finally got the documents to attach (although there was quite a long delay) but the links are not attaching. I attached them in the same way so I am not sure what is happening.
Thanks

Hi Beth,

It looks like you removed your previous post - and you could have edited it to remove the signature info, but that's not something I'm able to do for you.

Are you publishing for web? If so, playing the content off your local drive or shared drive may not work as expected as you'll want to test within the intended publish environment as detailed here. So you'll want to test within the intended publish environment to see how things work correctly.
