Text Box Settings (Font Size) Change After Publishing

Jun 10, 2013

When I publish my presenter ppt both through AO or publish locally, several of my text boxes on my slides somehow change settings.  The text boxes end up extending very far off screen and the font size is much bigger.

When I go in to fix the settings, the text box Autofit setting has been toggled to "Resize shape to fit text" instead of "Shrink text on overflow", which is the correct setting.  The master powerpoint file itself somehow gets modified and saved to these incorrect settings during the publishing process.

I have tried publishing directly to AO as well as publishing locally, and both times have run into the issue--although not always the same text boxes each time, so it appears the glitch is sporadic.

The only other potentially relevent thing I can think of is that the presentation has 6 flash videos embedded, and in my experience the larger the powerpoint file, the more glitches tend to happen during publishing.  If I'm missing an easy fix, however, I would be very interested to know what I can do.

It is unnacceptable to send out my modules when some of the text boxes extend the majority of information offscreen like that; and I am under a bit of time pressure.  I don't think "keep fixing and republishing and hope they don't glitch" is the most workable option so I'm hoping for better feedback.

Thanks in advance,

Laura

Hi Laura!

Here are a few things that you can check:

  1. If you're using a DPI setting other than 96, you'll encounter erratic behavior in the desktop applications and the published output. There is an article here that explains this further as well as provides instructions on checking/changing yours if needed.
  2. Can you view the presentation in a different web browser?  If so, you may simply need to clear out your web browser cache.
  3. If you've checked the above, and still need assistance, then you should simply send the Presenter Package so that it can be reviewed.

Hope this helps!

Have a great day!

Leslie,

Thank you for your suggestions.  I checked my DPI setting per the article listed, and it's set at the default.

I'm fairly confident that it's not a browser issue, as the actual powerpoint file itself is modified during the publishing process.  So when I open the file in powerpoint, the text boxes extend off of the slides IN powerpoint (as well as the published product).  Even when I chose "publish locally", by the end of the publishing process the text boxes would be mysteriously changed in my powerpoint file.

I am not able to send the presentation as-is, because it contains embedded video that I'm not permitted to share externally, however I will try uploading the powerpoint without the video for investigation.

For the record, I had to find an alternate workaround due to my time pressure, and I was able to salvage the slides by manually changing the font sizes so that the text box fit on screen without needing to use autofit, and then disabling the autofit property of the boxes in the properties menu.  Although that worked for the interim, that is not a great longterm solution as the autofit text box function is ubiquitous in every presentation I create and one of powerpoint's crucial timesaving features.

I appreciate your time and help!

Laura
