Tracking by Slides Viewed doesn't update Completion % in LMS

Jun 21, 2012

I have published some Articulate courses to LMS as SCORM 1.2 packages, tracked by slides viewed, and  the LMS Progress % tracking isn't being affected by the number of slides viewed in the way that it should.

I've raised the issue with out LMS provider and had the following response.....

"

What you see in the progressbar is the SCORM_Score_RAW and the complete/incomplete radiobutton is the value for Lesson_Status. We see that articulate course always give the value for Lesson_Status, but not always for SCORM_Score_RAW. This is logical because if a course consists of only informationpages the learner cannot score on the pages. For this all e-learning tools have a feature that says: ‘make score equal to progress’. If this feature is turned on, the course looks at the pages which are visited by the learner and each page is a percentage of the course. (10 pages in a course, each page is 10%) With this feature the course fills the SCORM_Score_RAW field so the progress of the learner is registered in the LMS.

"

My assumption is that by selecting the tracking option "by slides viewed" in Presenter this should set the configuration to ‘make score equal to progress’ - can anyone confirm that my assumption is correct ?

If so, which part of the SCORM 1.2 package would define that technically - is there a line in imsmanifest.xml or similar coding type files that I could point my LMS provider at !?! -

I've read through the 9 tips for troubleshooting LMS tracking issues, but that doesn't seem to cover it...

Have you tried this:

Make the last slide a Quizmaker slide with your exit slide text.

Use the quiz for the course completion data and use a score of 0% for passing/complete.

If you want, make it hidden in the menu as well so they can't jump to it first.

See what happens with that model and the LMS data that is seen.

Thanks Dwayne,

I have taken a similar approach to that by just asking the learner if they've completed the course  with a TRUE/FALSE single question quiz.  That way was a bit clunky, and I like your approach better.  How would you ensure that you don't get that "Your Must Answer the Question" hint from the quizmaker slide.   Would you use a hotspot question and ask them to click on an object, or is there a better way ?

However, it would be great if I could get the progress % to really reflect the number of slides viewed....
