Can I lock nav on just the quiz (to keep users from cheating)

Dec 27, 2010

I have a course, and I'd like users to be able to use the forward/back/pause controller to navigate their way through. However, I also have a quiz, and once they get to the quiz, I don't want them to be able to view previous slides while they're taking the quiz. Is there a way to make this work without turning off the forward/back/pause controller on my course's player template?

Hi Cindy,

One way you could control this is to change the properties (at the bottom of the quiz placeholder slide in Presenter)... there's a setting for "Allow user to leave quiz" and you could make it so the user can't leave the quiz till they've completed it. That way they wouldn't be able to page backwards - they'll get a message saying they have to complete the quiz first.

Does that help?

Another thought:  when administering a quiz thru Presenter, what I sometimes do is get rid of the player controls altogether for the quiz placeholder slide. You can do this by changing the Slide Properties to Slide Only mode for just that slide. This way, the only nav buttons the users sees are the ones on the quiz itself. Doing it this way might achieve what you're looking for, because the "back" button on the player controls wouldn't be visible while they're taking the quiz. For true control, though, you'd also need to disable keyboard shortcuts and remove the view mode toggle button. You can do that on the player template - just let us know if you need help with that.
