Audio/video out of sync in Explorer in HTML5 and New Player lineskipping with autoscale

Nov 15, 2019

Hiya,

I'm employed in an e-learning team and our clients (55.000 people) are more or less forced into using Internet Explorer. Whenever we publish a course the videos (real h.264 video) we have produced have their audio/video out of sync by up to ½ a sec.

This is not a problem when using the Flash Player. But all compatibility with Flash is scrapped in ... 2020 or something and it is already a major hassle to make it work for the end-user, having to enable it in the browser etc.

We have tried more than 50 different solutions, tested all browsers, automatic compression, no compression with different bitrates and it always boils down to Internet Explorer not working when using HTML5 player.

Does anyone have a fix for this, that we haven't thought of?

Also, we are forced into using the Old Player because videos doesn't scale without lineskipping when using the New Player. So all videos are basically ugly  and text is unreadable when using the new player.

This problem has persisted since the launch of the new player. Is there any plans for a fix to this?

Or does anyone have a fix for this problem so that an auto-scale course doesn't do lineskipping and ruins everything.

Kind regards,

Asbjorn

Hi Asbjorn!

You've provided great details, thank you for including those! Also, I'm sorry this has been such a hassle. Have you noticed this in a specific version of Internet Explorer?

I'm happy to continue investigating! Are you able to share your file or even a screen recording so that I can see how the course is being displayed?

You can share your file by using the "Add Attachment" button in this discussion. I'll take a look and let you know my findings!

Hiya Lauren,

Here is a link to the unreleased course: http://elearning.kk.dk/okf/intern/test/preboarding29/story_html5.html

I've attached instructions on how to get to the video in the attached .png file. This is where the sound/video is out of sync.

Here is a link to another course where the line-skipping occurs:

http://elearning.kk.dk/kff/intern/powerbi/story_html5.html

Both of these issues are in Explorer.

If I watch a video on Youtube in Explorer, also in their html5 player, they don't have lineskipping or sound sync issues.

In this course here: http://elearning.kk.dk/kff/intern/powerpoint-skabelon/story_html5.html

the lineskipping also happens - but only sometimes. All videos are exported from the same Premiere file with the exact same settings and have the exact same settings in the storyline file.

I can not attach our storyline files for security reasons, but I'll include some screenshots in my post below.

Hello Asbjorn!

You've included great resources! Thank you for taking the time to attach them!

I did notice the skipping audio in Internet Explorer, but not Chrome. Which is exactly what you were speaking to. Are most of your users still using Internet Explorer with Flash? If so, I would consider publishing the course as Flash/html5 output. Yes, it's taking a number of steps back but if your clients aren't upgrading then that would be my recommendation.
