I have an MCQ quiz which allows 3 incorrect attempts. I want to display remedial feedback when the user gets the incorrect answer 3 times. How do I go about this? Is there a variable or trigger that counts/acts on the number of attempts?
Within Storyline you can set the number of attempts per question, and then the user would see the try again layer until they reach the max. number of attempts and if they answer incorrectly again they'll see the "incorrect" feedback layer where you could provide some additional information.
Thanks. I seem to remember it being like that. However, in 1.7 if you select 'Feedback by Choice' there is no 'Try again' layer and the 'incorrect' feedback dialog is disabled.
Yes, feedback by choice as a default will automatically show the appropriate feedback layer, but you can still enable more than one attempt, and then the user will be brought back the question and can change their answer. This set up doesn't track the feedback by number of attempts though.

You may want to review the information here on how to work with the features in quiz questions.
