Captions for videos in html5 not playing

Oct 05, 2018

Hello!

The captions button is checked, but there are no captions in the HTML5-only version.  Oddly enough, they do show up in preview mode.

Anyone else noticed this behavior?

I just started to notice it with the recent version of 360. I have tested in Chrome and Edge, with both Flash-only and HTML5-only.

Hi there Jason!

We've seen the same thing in our own testing, so you're not alone! Specifically, we see this problem when...

  • Using the classic player
  • The browser window is maximized
  • Using Google Chrome

Does that description match what you're seeing, too? Do you see the captions come into view if you decrease the size of the browser window?

Alyssa,

Thank you for the reply!

I noticed the problem in the same way you described - Classic player, browser maximized, Google Chrome.

  • I would just add that it seems like HTML5 is part of the issue. The reason I think it is happening in Google Chrome is the disabling of Flash in the newest versions.

I am seeing the issue as you describe.

Hey Jason. A little hello to let you know that we just released update 21 for Storyline 360! It includes new features and fixes - check them all out here.

One of the fixes addresses an issue where closed captions sometimes disappeared in HTML5 when using the classic player.

Here’s how you can update Storyline 360 to take advantage of everything the latest release has to offer. Let me know how you make out!
