Changes to pre-loading from SL2 to SL3?

Jul 05, 2017

Hi, I have problems with a course which was originally built in SL2 and has since been upgraded to SL3. The original course runs without any issues, but now that it has been published in SL3 it is often left hanging and frozen - usually just before an embedded video or audio. When testing it, we have throttled the broadband down to a low level and it reveals that it is trying to pre-load the next screens in advance - and often failing - which seems to be the thing causing the hanging state. This SL3 version is published as HTML5 with Flash fallback - would this make a difference?? Would love any help or advice. Thanks.

Hi Sally!

Sorry to hear that you've run into an issue with this. It is not a common one that I've heard.

To answer your question, the way content is preloaded has not changed.

Are you viewing in similar browsers? Your SL2 content would have published Flash first, but using the new default in SL3 does use HTML5 first as you mentioned. As you can see in the documentation shared above, this content does not preload.

If you republish using Flash first/HTML5 fallback, does this alleviate the issue you are seeing?

Hi Leslie,

Thanks for responding.

We have tried both ways of publishing and both are now having hanging and freezing issues since publishing via S3. We have tested and recorded all different versions of browsers and broadband speeds and yet all are having issues, where they weren't any in the SL2 published versions.

The only thing we can do to alleviate the issues is to remove all the videos and large images to get them to work properly. This is a workaround - but not a useful solution! We really need SL3 to respond the way SL2 did when publishing.

We are right up to the wire with launching 7 modules and this is causing delays to launch and tremendous cost implications now.

So any help is greatly appreciated!

Hello Sally!

Thanks for the updated details. I was headed to open up a case for you so that we can take a look at one of your SL2 files and upgrade it so that we could compare, but it looks like you already reached out to our team and Wilbert has reached out.

Feel free to continue working directly with him so that we can understand what may be happening and assist you.
