Combining Drag and Drop with Intersect Trigger

May 09, 2024

I may have gone about this the wrong way.  I would appreciate any input or ideas.

I have used the drag and drop feature which may not have the best way to accomplish my goal.  However, most of the time this works.

As the key word on the left is dragged over the definitions on the right the definitions/answers change to the "hover" state by using the "intersect" trigger.

If you move the key word up and down the definitions/answers in the right column they do not always convert to the 'hover' state.  Although most of the time they do... often when you let go of the key word after placing it on the answer/definition in the right column the hover state is lost and the definition/answer returns to 'normal.'

When this occurs the learner is unsure if they have activated the correct answer/definition.  Functionally they correct answer is activated though it does not always appear to be so and the submission feature works even when the hover state is not activated and the answer/definition has returned to normal.  Learners are very unclear and do not like this.  They are very frustrated.

I do not want a drag correct or drag incorrect option.  I do want the learner to make the choice and then 'submit.'

I can, of course, switch to multiple choice as in the second slide but it is not as interactive.

I have attached the file.  Most of the time this works but too often the state reverts.  Is there a solution?

See file attached.

Hello CyberTrainer Lee,

Thanks for reaching out! Happy to help.

I'd like to offer a suggestion that could improve the feel of the drag-and-drop interaction for your learners.

  • By creating a custom state with the "Drag Over" feature, you can swap out that state for the intersect state. Here's a quick Peek where I walk you through the changes.

I will attach the updated .story file so you can take a closer look!

Additionally, I'd like to share this article with some suggestions that might inspire future projects where you incorporate this type of interaction!

Let us know if you have any questions!
