Customize Markers, Characters, Buttons
Oct 19, 2012
I have only been playing around with Storyline for a short time, but when I took a look at the built-in characters (awesome), and markers (very cool), and buttons (nice) I immediately tried to see how they were put together. It seems like you hid your artwork resources where the software is installed so I couldn't take a look at how these were built.
So the question is, where can I find documentation that shows me how I can create my own markers, cut out characters, and buttons that I can import into storyline that will provide the same functionality as what is already built in?

Hi Jerson,
There's a lot of ways you can design and create your own custom characters, markers and buttons. While you can't modify the built-in objects, Storyline gives you a lot of ways to create your own.
Here's a couple resources that should help:
Custom characters:
How to use your own photos & illustrations to create character packs in Articulate Storyline
Using custom states to create photographic character packs in Articulate Storyline
Custom buttons:
Toggle button
For your markers, you can use any object (shape or image) and add a hover state with a callout. If you have any questions on how that works, let me know!
Thanks for the info. I did ant to know who you added the different facial expresions with a selected pose. Did you have to create each pose for each facial expression or use seperate images and have it pieced together in the output? That's what I would like to do. I really don't want to draw 10 poses for each 10 different facial expression.
David,
Can you explain adding a hover state with a callout for a custom marker?
Thanks!
Hi David
I would like to echo Erin's request. Could you please explain how to add a hover state with a callout for a custom marker?
Thanks

e.g the icons used in Moodle to explain activities to students in a call out window thanks in anticipation ...
Hi Ian,
This thread is a bit older, and I don't see any additional information shared here. Could you share a few examples of what you'd like to set up or additional information on how it behaves in Moodle (I'm not familiar enough with the icons to know)?
Also, have you looked into how to set up states (such as hover) or include the built in markers/buttons, etc?
