Drag and drop gradable quiz slide questions

Mar 27, 2020

Using Storyline 360. I have a graded quiz question with 4 draggable items and 4 drop spots, each item should go in 1 dropspot.  In Storyline Preview & Articulate Review, I can drag and drop items fine and if I try to click Submit before dragging any items, I get the appropriate pop-up saying to answer the question.
However, it doesn't force me to drop all items before it shows Correct or Incorrect feedback upon clicking Submit, which is what I want. It only requires me to drag over 1 item before that "counts" and lets me submit the interaction. I'm using the built in Correct and incorrect feedback layers.
I tried adding to the trigger on the Submit button ("submit drag and drop 1 when user clicks submit") to include conditions that all dropspots must have the state "Drag Over" but that caused the Submit button not to work at all. Also tried it on the states of the draggable items, same result.
Any ideas? I am wondering if my option settings may need tweaking. My options for "Drag and Drop Options" are set as follows:

  • set to return item to start point if dropped outside
  • set to snap dropped items to drop target
  • set to allow only 1 item per drop target
  • set for feedback setting "delay item drop states until interaction is submitted"
  • set so "reveal drag items one at a time" is UNCHECKED

I don't think I can share our file. Hoping someone has an insight on how they have done this - a setting I'm missing or something.  Thank you! - Jen

Hi Jen,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your design needs!

An idea that may help achieve what you want to do is to use a Custom Prompt layer. You can apply this layer to your Drag and Drop question by adding the appropriate triggers and layers outlined in the guide.

If you can share your file, we're always more than happy to help! You can share files to this thread, or you're always welcome to share them privately here. We'll let you know our findings and will delete it after having a closer look!
