Thanks for sharing the file here. I didn't have any problems applying the "blue series" and specifically the "blue course info" to the first two slides I tried. Maybe I'm not using the right one - or understanding which element you're referring to as the "sidebar" ? Could you share a bit more directions or an image to help me take a better look? Thanks!
I think I see what you are talking about in the 3rd set of slide masters, where is it is mostly blue, except the side bar there is staying green. When you are in the slide master - it seems like the picture is overlaying that side bar. When I clicked the picture and moved it off to the side I could then change that side bar.

Hi Ari! What slide are you asking about? I only see one using the blue template.
If you look at the master slide, the chapter 1 lettering is blue, but when you apply it to the slide, the text remains green.
