Help - Full Size "Record Screen"

Nov 11, 2013

Apologies if this is a simple problem but I wanted to get some clarification as I'm stuck yet again...

I've recorded a step-by-step process of navigating through a certain program via "Record Screen".  However, after importing the presentation into my scene, the recorded actual item appears letterbox.  Writing on the screen is illegible and its very hard to select hotspots unless I use huge buttons to indicate where to click.

Any thoughts on how I can rectify this?

Thank you in advance for the help.

Hi Rajiv,

Since no one has responded, I thought I'd at least throw a few posts in your direction.

You may have seen this already, but just in case, it's an Articulate tutorial: Record a screencast video

There's some discussion on screen recording size here

And it looks like Articulate staff and community members have come up with a variety of resolutions here. This one also has some discussion about 4:3 vs 16:9...wondering if that may be  part of your issue?

Good Morning, Rajiv.

I have a few clarifying questions:

  1. What is your screen resolution on the machine where you are performing the Screen Recording?
  2. What is your screen resolution on the machine where you are testing your published output?
  3. What is your Story Size?
  4. What are your Browser Size and Player Size?

Given a bit more detail, we'll be happy to help.  Thanks!

Thank you Rebecca and Justin for responding!

Rebecca - I'll read each item and try to troubleshoot...

Justin - To answer your questions:

1. 1280 x 1024

2. 1440 x 900

3. 720 x 540

4. Browser size is set to "Resize browser to optimal size" and player size is "Lock player at optimal size"

I'm extremely grateful for any help.

After viewing a presentation (that was done masterfully via Articulate), I realized that I am not screen recording correctly.  My presentation looks like a cropped version whereas the one I viewed looked as if it was a direct screen share.

Thank you again for the help.

I tried to change my story size but now everything is off set; the entire presentation is ruined.

All my items have shrunk and no longer look the same as before it was switched.  Is there a "time machine" function to revert a presentation back to a previous saved session.

I'm in a huge blind now as its for a presentation in 2 hours; I don't have time to remake the entire thing.

Hi Rajiv! Thanks for the update and glad that you were able to get the assistance that you needed.

For others:

Rajiv was recording as step-by-step slides.

Having done this, the screen recording inserted will default to the size it was recorded and it will not have the option to be resized to fill up the size of your slide. Given that you have changed the story size to 1200x900, then you need to record again a screencast with 1200x900 size. So that when you insert this as Step-by-step slides, the screencast will fill up the whole story slide.
