Help...how to size a screencast correctly

May 27, 2020

I have tried to follow the steps documented to record a useable screencast and I cannot get one. I have attached a link to view slide in Review.

My course is training on software, so I will have many screencast. Please advise what settings you would use to correctly record the screen shown. If I set the record size to the slide size of 720x405 I can only capture a small portion of the app.

The challenge with screencast recordings is that typically the screen is going to be a higher resolution than the course.

  • You can set your story size to be larger than 720x405.
  • If you try adjusting your monitor resolution down to the smallest you can get a viable screen. Then do the fullscreen recording at that resolution.
  • Instead of Storyline, use Replay to do the screencast and then import the video. That may give you more control over what you want to record. Once you insert the video, you can use the zoom region.

Here's a video with an idea. I recorded the screencast in Replay at 1920x1080 and inserted it into a Story at 720x405.
