I don't have Storyline in front of me at the moment, however, I believe, if you make is new state for the object (call it your animation state), then add an animation to that object's new state - when the object changes to the "animation state" it will "trigger" the animation.
I created a video on how to "trigger" an animation using a state. You can see that here. Let me know if this works - once I am in font of Storyline, I'll try it out myself and post a link to the result.
Rachel, let me know if you're able to get it to work. I've used this method to trigger an entrence annimation, but never an exit annimation - so, I'm very curious.
I would use a layer, have the object on the base layer, then when clicked show the layer (either hide the object on the base layer or set it to hidden). The set the object timeline length to about 1/2 a second and have your spin and shrink animation.

Yes, spin and shrink is an exit animation option. Just select your image and apply the animation. Set the timing on the timeline.
but can i turn it into an interaction so it hides when the person has clicked it rather than on a time line trigger?

Hey Tim. That's a really cool way to get around this. Nicely done!
Thanks Brett!
