Hover layer and visited state conflict
Dec 19, 2018
Hello,
I have a slide with 4 buttons on it. When user hovers the mouse over a button, a small callout box with a description of that button's function appears until the user stops hovering over that button.
If the user clicks the button, they are taken to a different slide.
When the user returns to the slide with the buttons, the button that they clicked is now a different color (visited state).
The problem is, that the hovered callout box is remaining as well. I cannot tell the slide to reset to the initial state on return, because that prevents the visited state option from working. I tried adding another trigger to the button, telling it to hide the hover layer on click, but that also did not work. I have attached a file with images. Any help in getting the hover layer to not be showing upon return (unless the user actually is hovering over a button) would be appreciated.

not seeing the attachment, so trying again here.
Hey Andrew,
Thanks for reaching out and letting us know what you are seeing in your course.
Are you using the built-in states or is this something you created manually?
I'm not seeing the hover 'stuck' in a quick test on my side, but I'd love to take a look at your .story file to understand what you are experiencing so that I can help you out.
Thanks for the response. The hover function is a layer that was created for each button by me. Each button currently has three triggers. Not sure that I can share the .story file due to content and security rules for my company. I will have to get back to you on that, but I can send screenshots as needed. Attached are screenshots of the triggers assigned to the buttons, the states, and also one of the hover layers that I created.
Have you tried putting your Hover content into Hover State of a button? That way, you don't need a Trigger to show Overview Hover layer.
Gotta love the simple solutions! I had created the layers for the hover effect before I learned about the states and it just didn't occur to me that I could do more than just change the button look when editing the states. Thanks!
It looks like Daniel beat me to it. I'm glad to see that he was able to help you out here, Andrew :)
