How to sync the Player Play/Stop when user clicks a buttom
Aug 03, 2013
Hi there.
This is my first post in the forum. I am a newbie with Storyline but making solid progress. I have a strange behavior with the storyline player on a particular slide.
The use case is a simple. I have a slide with a Button and a trigger that when the user clicks, it will start a series of recorded sentences in an mp3 file. That part works like a charm.
The student is supposed to pause the recording after each sentence, do so some work outside of storyline translating what they hear into a word doc.
The storyline player play/stop button does not stop the recording when you click it. You have to click inside of the rectangle box to the right of the play/stop timeline button, then you can use it to stop/start the recording.
This is workable with a beware note but not intuitive.
Thanks for your help in advance
Francis

Hi Francisco and welcome to Heroes!
Is this a custom button you built or the default one from Storyline? Have you tried importing this file into a new Storyline project to see if it solved the issue with the button? Something may have been corrupted in the original.
If importing your file into a new version doesn't work, I'd suggest that you submit a Support case so that we can take a look at your file.
Hi Ashley,
Thanks for your response. I recorded the sentences using the record from mic option when I created the trigger on a default
button. The way I anticipate it will work is the student clicks the button, hears the recording and stop/play after each sentence. The play / stop controls in the player don't appear to work unless I click anywhere in the center of the white rectangular area. See picture.
I will open a case as well. Thanks!
I added a picture of the slide I am working with.
Hi Francisco,
Thanks for sending along this image - that is helpful. It does not seem like normal Storyline behavior that you have to click within the white box that you have indicated, so if you haven't already please submit a Support case so that our team can take a look at your file. I'll look for your case as well to follow along - and feel free to send me the case number once submitted.
Ashley,
I uploaded a screen recording to support. They recommended I create two custom buttons, one for Play and one for Pause. Tha's a good workaround but it seemed more intuitive to use the timeline for that. I implemented it and it works fine.
Thanks for following up.
Try making a pause button with a trigger to pause the audio, and another button to play the audio.
Thanks Francisco for letting us know what the solution was! If you need anything else please let us know.
