Is Storyline any good on mobile devices?

May 19, 2014

I'm having disappointing results when publishing to HTML5 and playing back on my android tablet.  The story doesn't respond to touch gestures - therefore I can't pan or zoom the image.  Does Storyline support these?

Hi Jennifer and Ray,

As Michael mentioned, Storyline doesn't currently support Android. Storyline content may work on some Android devices. Click here to review the system requirements for authoring and viewing Storyline content.

If you'd like to see official support for a particular mobile device, we welcome your feature requests.

Hey Ray,

Depending on the publishing options that you choose - I found out by from the folks at SCORMCloud that the different types of SCORM publishing - 1.2, 2004 and Tin Can - all behave differently on HTML5.  For example, I could not get audio to play when publishing to SCORM 2004 and Tin Can but it worked on 1.2.

Could this be more of an issue with HTML-5 in general than an 'Articulate can't do this' issue?  Are you panning and zooming using Zoom regions, or are you trying to do it with multi-touch gestures?  From my experience (correct me if I am wrong) but this functionality is not even available on mobile Safari or the Articulate mobile app.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for bringing that up - our HTML5 output does not support gestures, such as pinch-to-zoom or swipe, on mobile devices. However, the Articulate Mobile Player app for iPad is optimized to support gestures.

HTML5 is still considered a new and emerging standard in e-learning technology. As of early 2014, it hasn't been accepted as the industry standard. Our team continues to look into HTML5 bugs and design issues - but the support for Android is something that is not yet available.
