Hi all, when trying to run an html5 file on Android device (chrome 57), the sound is not working automatically but only when adding a button to enable the sound it works. I have tried to add a trigger saying "play media when timeline starts" with no luck. In addition, when clicking the progress bar the sound starts.
We've found that Google Chrome for Android does not play audio in Storyline 2 files, and we've logged this as a software bug. Thanks for letting us know how this is affecting you, and I'm sorry for the headaches it has caused. I'll be sure to add your experience to the report. You're in the right place, and I'll be sure to send you updated information as soon as I can!
Thanks for the quick response, In addition to this issue, we are facing another one that when running a quiz second attempts on html5 the module is stuck. any idea why? or any solution for that?
Its happening after clicking Try Again during the quiz.
After clicking Try Again, I select an answer and click Submit, but nothing happens. the module is got stock without the ability to proceed to the next question.
I see, thanks for those details. I'm trying to recreate this in a new file, but I still need your help. Could you share your file with me? You can attach it in this discussion, or send us a copy privately by clicking here.
My team did some digging, and we weren't able to find a discussion that matches the issue you're seeing. Since you found a similar discussion in the forums, let's start there. Could you send me a link of one that you found?
This issue doesn't happen in Storyline 360. I created a sample file for you to test in Google Chrome for Android 57--you should hear audio on the first slide.
Is your project impacted by this issue in Storyline 2? Since you're now subscribed to this thread, you'll receive a notification as soon as we have an update on a fix for Storyline 2.
Please test this link on your Android device, and let me know if you get stuck after clicking the Try Again button. I tested the link on Chrome for Android v.58, and I did not have a problem moving on after clicking Try Again.
A custom submit button shouldn't make a difference. I updated the link to include a custom button instead of the player Submit button. How does that one behave on your device?
We are having the same audio issues with any files we currently publish or were published previously with Storyline 2. I took the same file that wasn't playing audio and published it in Storyline 3 and it worked as it is supposed to. The audio isn't playing as it should on both Android devices as well as older iphone/ipad OS. Please help! We have hundreds of courses not not working properly on mobile devices.
So sorry this is slowing you down! We know the issue with audio not playing on Chrome for Android is causing huge headaches, and we're actively working on a fix. We'll let you know as soon as we have more information.
You also mentioned your Storyline 2 courses also aren't playing audio on older iPhone/iPad iOS. There are a couple of reasons this could be happening:
Are you on the most recent update of Storyline 2? We added support for iOS 9 in Update 7 for Storyline 2 to address this issue, and we're now on Update 11.
If you'd like me to test your Storyline 2 files, just attach them here, and I'll let you know what I find!
I attached the sample file for you here so you can compare it to your file. As long as you have set up more than one attempt for each question and included a "Submit Interaction" trigger on your custom button, you should be golden.
We'll let you know as soon as we have more information on the issue with audio in Chrome for Android. Thanks for sticking with us on this!
Thanks for sharing your file, Guy. I can definitely see how the "Submit" button gets stuck on the second attempt of each quiz question, but your file settings seem to match the ones in my sample file.
I'm going to share this with our Support Engineers to have a closer look (01069514)--be on the lookout for an email from Support@Articulate.com.
Google Chrome 58.0.3029.83 was released for Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 with Android 6.0.1.
Still seeing the same issue with audio not playing on page load for Storyline 2.
Seems like if SL 360/SL 3 can work in these versions of Chrome on Android that an update to SL2, also would be able to fix for these versions of Chrome. Unable to migrate the source for this to the newer versions based on other project considerations.
Good news, everyone! We added support for the latest version of mobile Chrome in Update 12 for Storyline 2. Just download and install the latest Storyline 2 update, then republish your course to take advantage of all the latest features and fixes.
If you have numerous courses that are already hosted on web servers or LMSs, you'll be able to update them automatically—without having to republish—using the Articulate Updater.
http://alyssagomez.articulatetest.com/Audio-Test-SL360%20-%20Storyline%20output/story_html5.html is created with Storyline 3/360. Audio crated by both SL3/360 and SL 2 Update 12 are neither working with latest Chrome Version 58.0.3029.110 on iOS 10.3.2 on iPAD nor on Android 6 or 7. Same the case with latest version of Firefox on Android 6 or 7 as well as on iOS 10.3.2. They do work in Chrome and Firefox on desktop without any issue. You above link confirm that No Audio issue is with SL360, SL3 and SL 2 Update 12 for mobile/tablet/iPAD Do you have fix for it?

Hi Alyssa,

Hi Guy,
Can you tell me more about how the module gets stuck?
Its happening after clicking Try Again during the quiz.

Unfortunately I'm not allowed to share the module outside the company.
From looking on other similar discussions here, this is a well known issue that SL2 has with html5 output.
Completely understand, Guy.

I have a project impacted by the same issue in Google Chrome for Android 57.0.2987.132.
Is it known whether Storyline 360 is subject to the same problem? Or might Storyline 360 play audio properly in this version?
Hi Matt,
This issue doesn't happen in Storyline 360. I created a sample file for you to test in Google Chrome for Android 57--you should hear audio on the first slide.

Hi Alyssa,
I could not find this discussion. Looking forward to hear from you regarding the second attempt quiz issue when using html5 file.

Does it matter if I use a customized Submit button instead the regular one you used?
Hi Guy,

Hi Alyssa,
The second attempt issues seems to be solved and its working. But, there is no voice in your sample to test on android devices.
Cans you share with me the solution for the second attempt quiz that you solved?

Hi Alyssa,
Thanks for sharing the file. I compered and didn't find any conflict.
I attached the quiz for you to investigate, maybe you will find the issue.
Thanks.

I completely understand, Matt. We're hard at work on this issue in Storyline 2. As soon as we have an update, I'll let you know!
Thanks. Good to hear there is an effort to fix in SL2 that is independent of waiting for Chrome to be changed.
Hi Alyssa,
any updates regarding the issue with android and html5?
