Issues when playing html5 file on Android Devices

Apr 25, 2017

Hi all, when trying to run an html5 file on Android device (chrome 57), the sound is not working automatically but only when adding a button to enable the sound it works. I have tried to add a trigger saying "play media when timeline starts" with no luck. In addition, when clicking the progress bar the sound starts.

Any ideas how to solve it?

Hi there Guy,

We've found that Google Chrome for Android does not play audio in Storyline 2 files, and we've logged this as a software bug. Thanks for letting us know how this is affecting you, and I'm sorry for the headaches it has caused. I'll be sure to add your experience to the report. You're in the right place, and I'll be sure to send you updated information as soon as I can!

Hi Matt,

This issue doesn't happen in Storyline 360. I created a sample file for you to test in Google Chrome for Android 57--you should hear audio on the first slide.

Is your project impacted by this issue in Storyline 2? Since you're now subscribed to this thread, you'll receive a notification as soon as we have an update on a fix for Storyline 2.

We are having the same audio issues with any files we currently publish or were published previously with Storyline 2. I took the same file that wasn't playing audio and published it in Storyline 3 and it worked as it is supposed to. The audio isn't playing as it should on both Android devices as well as older iphone/ipad OS. Please help! We have hundreds of courses not not working properly on mobile devices.

Hi Meadow,

So sorry this is slowing you down! We know the issue with audio not playing on Chrome for Android is causing huge headaches, and we're actively working on a fix. We'll let you know as soon as we have more information.

You also mentioned your Storyline 2 courses also aren't playing audio on older iPhone/iPad iOS. There are a couple of reasons this could be happening:

If you'd like me to test your Storyline 2 files, just attach them here, and I'll let you know what I find!

Hi Guy,

I attached the sample file for you here so you can compare it to your file. As long as you have set up more than one attempt for each question and included a "Submit Interaction" trigger on your custom button, you should be golden.

We'll let you know as soon as we have more information on the issue with audio in Chrome for Android. Thanks for sticking with us on this!

Thanks for sharing your file, Guy. I can definitely see how the "Submit" button gets stuck on the second attempt of each quiz question, but your file settings seem to match the ones in my sample file.

I'm going to share this with our Support Engineers to have a closer look (01069514)--be on the lookout for an email from Support@Articulate.com

Google Chrome 58.0.3029.83 was released for Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 with Android 6.0.1.

Still seeing the same issue with audio not playing on page load for Storyline 2.

Seems like if SL 360/SL 3 can work in these versions of Chrome on Android that an update to SL2, also would be able to fix for these versions of Chrome. Unable to migrate the source for this to the newer versions based on other project considerations.

Good news, everyone! We added support for the latest version of mobile Chrome in Update 12 for Storyline 2. Just download and install the latest Storyline 2 update, then republish your course to take advantage of all the latest features and fixes.

If you have numerous courses that are already hosted on web servers or LMSs, you'll be able to update them automatically—without having to republish—using the Articulate Updater

http://alyssagomez.articulatetest.com/Audio-Test-SL360%20-%20Storyline%20output/story_html5.html  is created with Storyline 3/360. Audio crated by both SL3/360  and SL 2 Update 12 are neither working with latest Chrome Version 58.0.3029.110 on iOS 10.3.2 on iPAD nor on Android 6 or 7. Same the case with latest version of Firefox on Android 6 or 7 as well as on iOS 10.3.2. They do work in Chrome and Firefox on desktop without any issue.
You above link confirm that No Audio issue is with SL360, SL3 and SL 2 Update 12 for mobile/tablet/iPAD
Do you have fix for it?
