Mobile and Safari issues with Storyline

Jun 02, 2014

I am having 3 issues with Storyline published for Mobile devices.

Normal 0 false false false oNotPromoteQF /> EN-US X-NONE X-NONE ontGrowAutofit /> ontFlipMirrorIndents /> MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

Issue #1

Window should open be in proper size. The screen resizing issue is also there in MAC(OSX) but I can manually resize using  mouse and access the controls. Works perfectly in PC.

Issue #2

For iOS and safari the text should be readable in IPad at launch. What you see here is the first slide which shows all animated layers of the slide:

Issue #3

For iOS 7.1.1 and safari, the controls are not visible. In IPad we are not able to manually resize the window so the controls are not accessible.

Hi Greg,

The first issue you mentioned shows an image not from an iPad - so just to confirm you're seeing this only when viewing the course within Safari on your Mac? What version of safari are you using? To view a course on a Mac, we'd recommend the following browsers:

  • Mac: Safari 3 and later, Firefox 1.x and later, Google Chrome

In regards to the launch page, there is not a way to change that within Storyline. A number of users discuss ways to remove or modify it in this thread, but since it's a modification of the published output it's not something supported.

The last image looks like an issue we're aware of currently where if the content hosted in an LMS that launches within an iFrame on mobile safari does not scale correctly and causes issues with the navigation buttons. Our team is investigating this, and you can confirm that you're experiencing the same issue by testing your course at SCORM Cloud where it should display normally, and since each LMS player may be different it's also worth checking in with your LMS team regarding a way to force the content out of the iFrame to display normally within the iPad and mobile safari.

Ashley, Thanks for all of this help. I have not solved the issue with #1. I learned that the Safari browser version this was tested on is 6.0.5 (8536.30.1). Normal 0 false false false oNotPromoteQF /> EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

/* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-priority:99; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman","serif";}

Is there anything I can do to have this open fully without having to manipulate the window manually?

Hi Greg,

Sorry I missed your post last week - without seeing how this displays myself, the first things I'd look into are the player browser settings you've enabled, and there is a description of them here.  Are you able to test on other browsers, computers, to see if it's a specific issue or setting within Safari? The pictures of this course look familiar now - and I feel like I tested it in another thread? I don't remember it displaying incorrectly using Google Chrome on my pc.

Hello Ashley,

I was looking through this thread as I am also having an issue with displaying embedded content on a mac -safari (the content actually shows up on the iphone).

I've hosted/embedded my content on a wordpress site (using the articulate plugin) and then used an iframe to display it on a different website. Only when viewing it on a mac and safari (Firefox, Chrome were all ok) did the content not appear - just a blank space. Any ideas - or where there any settings that Greg was able to identify?

Thanks!
Claudia

Hi Claudia,

I don't see a new post from Greg about this issue, so unfortunately I don't have any additional information to share. Have you tried it outside an iframe or outside Wordpress to help narrow down where the issue is within that set up and Safari? You may want to try one of the free web servers in this article just to get more information about when it occurs.
