Mobile Player Problems

Jul 09, 2014

Hi All,

New to Storyline and am designing my first course for delivery via the IOS mobile player. I am liking Storyline so far but have experienced some frustrations with the mobile player.

The desire is to play the presentation Full Screen. I'm finding the reverse pinch gesture to enter full screen is difficult to execute. It usually takes several forceful attempts for me to get into Full Screen mode. However once in Full Screen mode, I'm finding that it is much too easy to accidentally get out of Full Screen mode while two finger swiping to page advance. I've had other folks test my presentation and observe the same behavior, so I don't think it's just my technique.

My question, is this a known issue with the mobile player that perhaps Articulate is already working on a solution for? Also, is there an alternative way to enter full screen mode via trigger/action? Aside from this issue, I'm loving the mobile player...especially the Offline option.

Thanks

Gary

Hi Gary and welcome to Heroes!

The Articulate Mobile Player app for iPad is optimized to support gestures, but I haven't heard of a specific issue with the full screen mode or using the pinch gesture. I don't know of any easy way for me to see or experience what you're doing within the mobile player - and can't say that I've experienced it myself. Do you know what version of the mobile player you're using? I believe the most update to date version is 2.23.

Hi Gary,

Is it only this one course that behaves as such on your iPad? I'd also be curious to know if you're viewing it from a web server or LMS? Have you tried any other hosting sites? There are a few free web servers in this article you may want to try using. Do you have a link to a course I could test on my iPad as well? You could share the link here or send it to me as a private message?

Hi Ashley,

Yeah, this is my very first use of Storyline. But I don't think its an issue with the course or with server response. I have my course setup to run offline and reverse pinch behaves the same way for me when running it downloaded to the iPad or from the server. I also have in my mobile player library, some of the Articulate gallery examples, and I have the same difficulty trying to get them into Full Screen. I can never seem to get it to go in my first try. It always takes me at least 2 reverse pinches, but more likely more to go into full screen, whereas getting out of full screen is easy....perhaps too easy.

It's more of a nuisance than anything else. I'm using Storyline in this case, not for eLearning, but for an iPad delivered sales presentation. My concern is that the salespeople may have a bit of awkwardness going full screen in front of a customer. I had two other people on our team try it on different iPads and they had the same reverse pinch difficulty as I did. They had an additional issue that I didnt experience myself, in that when in full screen and doing the 2 finger swipe for page advance, they kept accidentally taking it out of full screen. Then they got frustrated trying to get it back in full screen again.

I guess it just takes practice to perfect the technique, but perhaps its something the mobile player development team can look at for future releases.

Thanks

Gary

Hi Gary,

I think practice is definitely the key here - and it's something that we've heard users have difficulty with other items such as the two finger scroll and how that can be a bit finicky. The best thing to do now, is send along a feature request as those go directly to our product development team for additional review and inclusion in future updates or versions of the software.
