Modern Player Adaptive vs Static Publishing

Feb 28, 2024

I have published a project in order to test adaptive video streaming for the modern player with our LMS.

I discovered a possible but in the x64 version. Using the 64 bit version of Storyline 360, both the Adaptive and Static publishing options encode the videos as .ts files and have the identical number of files and overall file size. The 32 bit static option publishes as .mp4 files while adaptive publishes using HLS and .ts files. So: Looks like the 64 bit, using the Static option is "broken", as it should be publishing few files and leaving them encoded as .mp4.

64 bit:

Adaptive: 480 Mb, 4,522 files HLS videos as .ts files

Static: 480 Mb, 4522 files HLS videos as .ts files

32 bit:

Adaptive: 504 Mb, 4521 files HLS videos as .ts files

Static: 145 Mb, 95 files (.mp4 files)
