Movie Paused Indicator?

I am not using player controls for videos, rather I have my videos set to the same dimensions as my project, and rely on slide controls to play / pause / skip forward.
I had a request from a SME to include a Pause overlay when a video is paused. There doesn't appear to be a trigger that allows me to "show layer" when "slide / media is paused". Does anyone know a way around this?
I tested using the player controls but it doesn't have a pause overlay either.

Hi a mac,
You mentioned you have slide controls to pause your video, I'd suggest adding a second trigger to the Pause button to show a layer. Set the layer up to pause the timeline of the base layer (in slide layer properties). On the new layer add a second Play button with an extra trigger to hide the layer when clicked, and to play the media again.
Hi Ahsley,
I did not make use of custom buttons, the controls for the video are the same as those fo the slide, using the seek bar.
I realize that if I created custom buttons, I could achieve the desired result. However, I'm wondering if there's a way - using seek bar or video controls native to Storyline - to recognize when media is paused, and then display a hidden object, or new layers as you've suggested.
Thank you,
mac
Hi a mac,
My apologies, when I read that you use "slide controls to play / pause / skip forward." I assumed you meant your own on the slide.
I can't think of a way to show something based solely on the video being paused using the built in Storyline player buttons - but it may be something the community can offer advice on.
