Next from question slide doesn't work after branching

I’m having trouble figuring out how to get the navigation working the way I want it in a question slide. I have a quiz at the end of a lesson. Users have two tries to get each question right. If they don’t get a question right on the second try, I have a button that appears that allows them to go back to the slide in the lesson with that content. That slide then shows a button that takes the user back to the question. Then, I want the user to be able to select the next button to go to the next slide. However, the next button on the quiz question will now go back to the review slide rather than the next one.
For example,
- Quiz question is on slide 8
- After two wrong attempts, they get a button on the incorrect layer where they can go back to slide 3 for the content.
- Slide 3 has a button that takes the user back to slide 8
- Next from slide 8 now goes back to slide 3 and not to slide 9. I’ve adjusted the Next and Back triggers for the slide to go to slide 9, but it keeps going back to 3.
I don’t like using the continue button because it changes the way they’ve been navigating through the rest of the course. Is there any other way to do this?

It would be easier for the community to help correct your course's behavior if we could take a look at your project. We'll be able to see how your slides and triggers are configured if we have access to the .story file.
Would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can check how the navigation can be corrected to behave the way you want it to? We'll delete it when we're done testing!
