Storyline is not actually creating the Word document when I publish to Word. I have followed all instructions that I have found on this site. I am using Word 2016 in a Windows 8 environment on a parallels environment.
Are you using the latest update of Storyline 2 Update 9? You can download it here and if you read the release notes you'll see there was a fix for this issue.
I have done this. And it is still not working. The issue that the release notes refer to is for translation from one language to another. But this is not what I am trying to do. I just want the slides etc printed out for others to review.
Guess what. In a window way underneath the Articulate window, Word asked me what default extensions I wanted to use. When I took care of that (selected the Windows versions of Word), it has nicely now published. Thanks to the new version of the software
I'm sorry it seems I misread your post - I'm glad you were able to find the Word window underneath and choose the correct extension. Also, as Wendy mentioned, you'll want to confirm that you're not having another Word window already open.
Please help - I'm having the same problem (using SL 2 update 9, no new updates available per the update manager). SL is not actually creating the Word document, but I get the "congratulations" message and an empty file folder is created. I do not see another Word window behind my SL window when I go through the publication process.
What version of Word are you using? Did you confirm that Word was closed and that you were looking at publishing to a local drive with a short file name as detailed here? I'd also look at rebooting your system and just trying with only Storyline open. Lastly, is this a recent development for you or have you not been able to publish at all previously to Word? If the latter, I'd have you contact our Support Engineers here so that we could take a better look at what's happening on your set up?.
I shortened the names of my file folders and files, as I was saving this document deep in my files. With the shorter path name Word document publication is now working. Thank you!
I still can't get this to work. Word 2013 is not open, filenames are small, and I'm saving to the desktop. I get the window saying it Published successfully but there's nothing saved in the location I specified. So frustrating!
I'd advise ensuring your on the latest update of Storyline 2 Update 9 available here and if that's still not working look at going through the repair of Storyline. If the issue persists, please connect with our Support Engineers here so that they can take a look at your particular system and settings.
I'm knee deep in projects right now and don't have time to mess with look at going through the repair of Storyline or contacting engineers. If I do I will let yall know.

check there isn't a word dialogue box open that is asking for confirmation of something, or that the window is open behind storyline.

What happens when you click on the "view document" do you also find a blank Word file? Or does nothing open?

Can you share your .story file here so that we can take a look? Also, do all other publishing methods work?
