Slide advance problems
Sep 04, 2012
Hi
I've created a slide with 2 button layers (correct and incorrect answer). I've also set a trigger to advance slide when the media on the "correct" button layer completes. I'm not sure how to make sure the slide doesn't auto advance if the user doesn't get to the right button before the timeline on the base layer ends. Even when I extend the timeline on the base layer, the slide still advances on it's own, without following the trigger.

Hi! Do you have a trigger on your slide that advanced the slide automatically at timeline end?
If so, just delete that trigger.
no, the only slide trigger is the one associated with advancing after the media on the button layer plays
Could you post your story file? Or just a story file with your question on it and the slide after?
Sure, here is it.
Thanks, Stephanie!
Quick question--why did you add the trigger to advance the slide when the media completes? Is it okay if it is removed so the learner has to choose "Yes" or "No" before proceeding.
And if you did that, you could just add a button to move to the next slide on your "Correct" layer--or have that layer advance to the next slide automatically.
And also add a button to close the layer on your incorrect layer--or have it done automatically at timeline end (for that layer).
I want to advance to the next slide after the correct layer plays. So, are you suggesting that I add a trigger to the correct layer telling it to advance to next slide when the timeline on the layer ends?
Yup--that's one way to do it. Or add a button to do the same.
And remove the trigger on when the audio completes.
I added that trigger and removed the other. Still doesn't work though. If I sit and dont' make a choice, it auto advances to the next slide.
Hi! Try this one: https://s3.amazonaws.com/GJW-SL/Untitled1-rev.story
Does it do what you want?
yes - thanks ! Can you tell me what you did? I have a scenario right behind that one that is doing the same thing.
Looks like you just added the trigger to the correct layer? I did the same thing, but it doesn't work on my version.
Hi Stephanie,
I also took a look to your project.
What Gerry did is also removing your trigger "Jump to next slide when media completes" on the base layer.
By what I see, this is the one causing you trouble.
Hope it helps and have a nice day!
Annie
Yup. that's it.
1. On the base layer, I removed the trigger to jump to the next slide when the media completes.
2. On the incorrect layer, I added a trigger to hide layer (the incorrect layer) when the timeline ended (for the layer).
3. On the correct layer, I added a trigger to move to the next slide when the timeline ended (for the layer).
Is it helping?
Thank you! So, when I pull those two slide out into another file, it works like it should. When I pull them back into the larger file, it doesn't.
So, I deleted the slides in question and added them back - it works fine now! Many thanks!
NP! Best of luck with your project.
I have turned the selection to "advance slide by user" in the slide properties on my project but the slides are still advancing on their own after the timeline ends on my project. Is it because I am using custom back and next buttons and not the default storyline ones?
Hi Susan,
Do you have any triggers that are advancing the slide when the timeline ends?
Are you able to share your .STORY file here so we can take a look at what's happening?
Thanks!
Christine
