I've had problems with text moving around after publication in Presenter, and it appears there's a similar issue in Storyline.
I have a couple shapes with text that are aligned to the middle of the shape. But when I preview or publish the text drifts upwards. Doesn't looks so good.
OK. I did a Screenr video simulating a box shape with a single text box. I centered the text and made sure the alignment was set to middle. Watch the video and let me know if this helps or if there is something else I am missing.
Downloaded the files. Thanks for sharing by the way. I previewed it just like you and I have done, and there were no alignment changes for me whatsoever. Everything was as you had setup.
You know what I would try. I would download the file you uploaded, renaming it in the process and see if you still get the same results. If you do, then it must be something with your computer.
Have you tried closing Storyline and doing a reboot of your computer and see if the problem still exists after that. I have had problems like that with other programs, especially when my computer's resources were low after heavy usage.
I did try setting the top internal margin to 15px(15 pixels is quite an amount of drift) on object's text boxes. That way when published, the text looks right. Kind of a hack, but at least it looks okay.
by the way, the concerned questions are inside a question bank, not in a regular slide in a scene.
i dont see this problem in a regular slide scene.
i also noticed that the behavior of subscripts are intermitent in the same situation, that is, when viewing it converts the subscript to regular size. would any know why this is happening?
OPTION 2: Justify the text (rather than using Left, Center, or Right alignment). Justified text maintains positional data better during conversion than does Left, Center, or Right aligned text.
Note: If your justified text includes underlined characters, you may find that the underline gets broken between words when published. This is because text justification is designed to stretch characters to fill the width of a text box, but underlined characters do not get stretched to fill the extra spacing. If this occurs, replace the extra spaces with underscore characters and republish.
OPTION 3: Export the text as a PNG image (right-click the text box, and select "Save as Picture"). Then delete the text box, and import the saved image in its place.
If this does not work for you, please submit a case with your .story file so that support can look into this for you.
Has there been any movement on this bug? I'm trying to align the user-entered text in a Text Entry field. I set it as aligned middle, but every time I preview it, it aligns top.
Sorry to hear you're running into an issue with your text variables, but since this discussion is a bit older, I'd want to gather a bit more info from you to confirm if it's the same thing.
What version of Storyline are you using? Can you share examples or details about what you're seeing vs. what you expect?
Also, where are you viewing the course to see this? Preview vs. Publish? A particular browser?
That'll all be helpful info to get you pointed in the right direction!
I have the same issue. Using a textbox which references a variable (last slide) results in text being lower on the HTML output than it should be. See image below where the estimate column is out of alignment:

Hi Steve,
Take a look at this thread. Pay attention to David's answer.

Let me know if that helps,
Adrian
That's kind of a pain to go through for one slide isn't it?
And it doesn't work:
Hi Steve,
I am taking a look at it myself, to see if I can replicate it within Storyline. Will get back to you as soon as I can.

Hey Steve,
Do you mind sharing your Storyline file with me, so that I can play with it? I watched your video, but still can't duplicate your problem.
Adrian
You bet!
Thanks.

Hi Steve,
We'd love to be able to take a closer look at this. Mind submitting a case along with your .story file so we can explore it more? Thanks!
Hi Peter,
His story file is above. I downloaded it and played with it myself, but couldn't replicate what he was experiencing.
Adrian
Thanks, Adrian I got the same thing as you. I'm hoping he can submit a case so our engineers can take a look.
Case submitted. Thanks!
Really appreciate it, Steve!
hi,
i am also getting the same problem on my side.
i make sure that the text entry object is positioned where i want it to be.
but when i preview it or publish, it is not where it should be.
i dont understand why this is happening. It seems that in some slides the alignment is proper. but there are several slides too with this problem.
i hope that someone can figure it out and give a solution.
thanks,

Hi Caesar! I wanted to share the resolution that was sent to Steve when he had his issue:
You may find that text shifts position ever so slightly when published. To troubleshoot, please try the following solutions:
OPTION 1
Uninstall and reinstall the Articulate font as described on the link below.
http://www.articulate.com/support/kb_article.php?product=st1&id=fnu173yqp9qx
OPTION 2:
Justify the text (rather than using Left, Center, or Right alignment).
Hello,
I've got a problem with text containing variables. The left-margin doesn't work:

I attached the project-file. Does anyone have a solution?
thanks, Martin
Hi Martin!
Thanks for the details and for sharing an example file for me to take a look at.
This is an issue that has been reported to our support team.
I will update them with your issue as well and will flag this thread for update when applicable.
Thanks again.

Hi StratEase! I have no update to provide on this issue. It is in the hands of our QA Team still.
Hi,
I have the same issue. Is it fixed after 3 years?
Thanks

Hi Chris,
Thanks for reaching out and sharing what you are running into with your project.
I was able to see the same behavior you are reporting even when previewing.
I've opened up a support case on your behalf so that you can work directly with someone on our support team.
You should be hearing from someone soon.
