Text overflows text boxes on Save and Reopen

Apr 24, 2017

I'm importing PPT content into Storyline 2.

When I use the Layout option to format the imported slides, everything appears to work correctly. That is the formatting is applied to the slide and the text fits nicely in the text boxes.

When I save, close and reopen, the text has overflowed the text boxes in a way that it runs off the page. See attached Word doc for screen shots.

How do I stop this from happening?

I'm attaching the Storyline file and the PPT.

(If I change the settings to those you suggest nothing happens. I can manually go in and change each text box -- dragging to resize the box -- but that seems completely bizarre. I'll never finish this project since there are about 15 PPTs with many slides each.)

Thank you for any help you can offer.

I changed the settings for a few of the text boxes to those you suggest. Nothing happened. I can select each box and manually drag it to the correct size, but that represents an amount of work that will cause the project to fail. There are many, many slides in 4 units....I'm uploading the SL file here. I will upload the PPT in a separate response.

No worries Philp. Glad you were able to get those files through to us 🙃

I took a look at your file and I was able to replicate the behavior you are reporting here.

I did notice that the issue did not occur without applying a slide master though, so I took a closer look there and noticed you did not have any placeholders set for the text.

I have attached a sample of what you sent me:

  • Scene 1 = Your original submission with some of the problematic slides
  • Scene 2 = My replication of the issue
  • Scene 3 = Importing slides and not applying the layout and no issue
    • At this point, I modified the Slide Master, see layout LMTest, to include placeholder text for content and title.
  • Scene 4 = Utilization of this layout and working as intended

I hope this helps - It will certainly save you from modifying all those slides.
