Tracking by Slides Viewed
Oct 05, 2020
Hello Community. My team is republishing older modules in preparation for the exit of flash. We do not often track by slides viewed, so this one is stumping me. The original module designed in SL1 tracked completion when 41 of 46 slides are viewed. It is in our LMS and working as it should. I upgraded to SL3 and republished to HTML5 and now it is not marking complete. I have tested it twice, once tracking the original 41 of 46 slides viewed and a second time at 32 of 46. There are a couple of different paths the learner can choose, so I adjusted down to see if that would work. I did change the "When revisiting" setting on several slides from "Automatically decide" to "Reset to initial state." Could that be impacting the tracking? Any other ideas? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Hi Maricel, you should not need to adjust any properties for "When revisiting". This will not impact Storyline tracking the number of slides viewed. The issue sounds unusual. Is it possible anything else such as a quiz in the module might be impact completion? I'm happy to take a look if you'd like a second opinion of one of you modules.
If there are different paths users can take, that means not every user will access every slide, and tracking by slides viewed is not a good option. Consider inserting a final results slides as discussed at this blog post from commlabindia.
Thank you both so much.
Sally, thank you for the blog reference. I have bookmarked it for reference. The paths in this one is fairly basic with each path sharing much of the same content, so I am fairly sure I have accounted for the differences in the slide count. Inserting a results slide is my next move if I can't get the slides viewed tracking to work.
Sam, thank you for verifying that the revisiting properties will not impact the tracking and for offering to take a look at the module. If my next test is not successful, I might just take you up on the offer. I will share results soon.
No problem. You could always use Completion triggers as well, and add a
trigger on certain slide to mark the module completed.
