2. Right-click on the text object and save it as png.
3. Import the png.
4. Right-click on the png and adjust the picture's transparency setting.
Not ideal, of course, because now your text is no longer an editable text object, but if you only have to do this in a few places for design considerations, it can be done pretty quickly.

No? Ok.
Indirectly you can.
1. Type your text on the slide in Storyline.
2. Right-click on the text object and save it as png.
3. Import the png.
4. Right-click on the png and adjust the picture's transparency setting.
